Cafe East - Rotherhithe

100 Redriff Road, Deptford , London SE16 7LH

18-12-2008 (updated on 21-05-2009)

Ok first off, I’m quite reluctant to write a review for this place as It’s the type of gem you want to keep to yourself. For me this is undoubtedly the best Vietnamese restaurent in London and I have been to a fair few. It’s menu may be limited for some but what they do offer is the best you can get -Fresh ingrediants and authentic tasting dishes. Service is always prompt and freindly. Dishes are well prices and portions are generous. You may find when you go that there is a cue outside the door, don’t be surprised as this is the norm and you’ll prob have to wait a while before getting a seat. But it’s well worth it! When you enter you’ll likey see loads of people slurping away on their steaming hot bowls of 'Pho’ (highly recommended). If you read this and go, please let me know what you think on here. And if you don’t go well perhaps that’s a good thing, as maybe I’ll be able to find a seat.

I’ve changed the address as Cafe east has finally moved to a bigger and better location!

The old Place has now become MAMA PHO. Review coming soon!!!!

Harrods Food Halls - Knightsbridge

Knightsbridge, London SW1X 7QN

18-12-2008

The harrods food hall is one of them places I like to visit once in a while but rarely get anything. I like the hustle and bustle the place gives off. The authentic foods they sell from various regions, And the strange smells and enviroments. It’s great for the imagination and kids will definetly love it. I remember coming here as a child and being full of wonder.
The reason I say I rarely buy anything is because many items I feel are way overpriced. But sometimes temptation is too much and I just have to give in.

Somerfield - London

57-73 Chrisp Street, London E14 6LP

18-12-2008

Crisp street’s Somerfield has been around for a long time now serving locals with the usual affair. Being a fair sized supermarket it stocks all the essentials, unlike Tesco which seem to sell everything these days. Parking is available close by as well as the Market. Which if your after your fruit and veg you might be able to find cheaper there anyway. This store has daily promotions and cues never get stupid long which for me is always important. I hate spending more time in the cue than shopping.

The Captains Table - Soho

16 Market Way, London E14 6AH

18-12-2008

This is my local, well it’s one of my locals and has been around for years! I have memories from childhood eating here. So although I don’t (try not to) visit too often it still holds a plaice somewhere in my heart. The Fish and chips here are fantastic and much better than alot of the local rivals, which is why this place has been estblished for so long. Like many I believe it is family run and service is always with a smile.

Pizza Hut - Rotherhithe

Surrey Quays Road, London SE16 2XU

18-12-2008

A bit of a mixed service here, back in the day (meaning a couple of years ago) service and food here was pretty good. But lately for me that service and food I’m afraid has dropped…dramaticly. The last time I went our orders took in excess of an hour and that was just the starters. By the time our pizza arrived it was semi cold/warm and worst of all it was dry. Who like’s dry pizza? No amount of side dip was going to help. So we asked the staff to do something about it. Well 5 minutes later they come out with the same pizza but this time it’s even drier and half of it is warm/hot and the other is COLD! Simply unexceptable. I’m quite sad to only give this place a 1 star as like I said at the start it used to be quite good. But like the sad few restaurents, over time service can drop.

Silvios Quality Sandwich Bar - Old Street

58 Paul Street, London EC2A 4LN

19-11-2008

Cant really comment on the Sandwiches but not shown in the picture is the Pie and Mash Section of Silvios. They have a nice variety of traditional and more experimental Pies on offer. I must admit they are extremely tasty but don’t seem to be filling enough. You get 1 pie 2 x mash, peas and gravy. Of course you could order more, but at £6+ for the set, lunch could get rather pricey. No seating available and small cues during lunch.

1997 - Soho

19 Wardour Street, London W1D 6PL

19-11-2008

Its late (post clubbing) and your after a quick cheap Chinese meal, I would happily recommend 1997. Its decor and service is simple. Food is always fresh and there’s plenty of seating. Though it may get very busy at times and you might have to share a table.

This is one of, along with a few other Chinese restaurants that stay open to cater for people after a late night snack. At this place I highly recommend the Hokkien fried rice or the mixed meat rice!

Royal China Restaurant - Docklands

30 Westferry Circus, London E14 8RR

18-11-2008

One of my favorite places to get Dim sum. The food is fantastic for Dinner as well as Lunch. Staff are efficient, polite and very friendly. Interior is classy and authentic but the toilets are a little dark.

This waterside restaurant has some great views especially around sunset. You may find the prices a little higher than the average Chinese restaurant but let me assure you it is well worth it. The Salt and pepper mixed seafood is a favorite of mine as well as the chicken and jelly fish dish both cooked to perfection.

I would advise to book well in advance for both dinner and lunch.

Tiffinbites - City of London

24 Moorfields, London EC2Y 9AA

18-11-2008

Located very conveniently next to Moorgate station, this tiny Indian eatery offers lunch to mainly busy bankers. The curries are microwaved here which I found surprising considering your paying £10+ for lunch (not cheap). Quality is pretty decent though, Naans are cooked fresh are portions are good. Crowded during lunch times and table a very limited so expect to wait.

Orbital Comics & Collectibles - Covent Garden

8 Gt Newport Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 7JA

18-11-2008

Nice little shop full of Anime collectibles. Great for last minute presents to suit all budgets. Prices are mixed for me, for example you could probably quite easily find cheaper prices online. But the staff seem nice and quirky and they hold regular book signings.
