All About Eve - Edinburgh

118 Bruntsfield Place, Edinburgh, Scotland EH10 4ES

10-11-2012

I've been into All About Eve a few times now. The first two experiences were good. Dominique did my facials and was very professional and personable - one of those people who are naturals. Today, however, was a disappointment. However the general attitude and vibe seems to have changed from earlier in the year. I had to cancel my first booking and they couldn't fit me in for another month or so but I had been advised that I could use the gift voucher given to me by my husband as an anniversary present. I arrived today and waited 15 minutes with no acknowledgement nor apology. The Receptionist looked like she didn't want to be there. The beautician was fine, and technically very good, but initially fired a bunch of questions at me that she obviously hadn't thought through. Perhaps she was trying to make up time. When paying at the end the lady who I assume was the manager abruptly said it wasn't possible to use the £6 difference between the cost of the facial and the value of the card on products. It's not so much waiting, or the policy on gift cards, it was the arrogant and rude delivery of it all. It's such a shame because I would like to support local businesses. But quite frankly I felt bad that my husband had treated me and I came away with a mixed experience. Great for them if they've enough business to not have to be concerned with courtesies, but I also have a choice and on this occasion I'll be voting with my feet.

cheynes hairdressing - Edinburgh

2 Bruntsfield Avenue, Edinburgh, Scotland EH10 4EP

Popped in for a fringe trim and to check them out as a potential new salon as I'm new to the area. The cost of the trim was a reasonable £8. I explained to the hairdresser, Lloyd, that I just needed a tidy up before I sat some job interviews. I also asked him if he felt we should cut in a full fringe, as I'd had the length at the back shortened by 3 inches before relocating from London and wondered if the front should be changed as well. He said it didn't need it and suggested we proceed with a tidy up of the long (ear-length) layers at the front. I agreed. I was therefore surprised when he cut a significant amount at eyebrow level, leaving the overall look quite disjointed. Lloyd himself was pleasant enough but didn't seem particularly engaged. So, all in all, not a disaster cut, but disappointing, and I'll try one of their competitors before I'd go back.
