Momo Dumpling Bar - Brighton
15a Kensington Gardens, Brighton BN1 4AL
05-02-2012
I discovered this place via a Groupon promotion and ate lunch here with my partner.
We both had the Momo Special allowing us to sample three different Dumpling fillings which we had with our choice of Udon Noodles along with Green tea all of which we both enjoyed.
It’s a very small space and not really set up as a restaurant. But if you want Dumplings and noodles at a more reasonable price then this place for yourself or with a couple of mates is a must or just takeaway!

I love Mexican and checked in via Foursquare for complimentary Guacamolito on my first visit.
The Guacamolito didn’t come across bland whilst the main dish I chose, ‘Cochinita Pobli’ was simply unappetising.
My biggest regret was my automated reply of ‘fine, thank you’ when asked if everything was okay because it wasn’t but I was caught off guard, how could pork taste so horrible?
Other people seemed to be enjoying themselves and I liked sitting up at the table that around the kitchen but my dish!
I want to like this place and strange as this may sound, will go back to try it again.
Travellers Rest - Trevarrian
Newquay, Cornwall TR8 4AQ

Just found the photo of what I ate there back in June – great portion size and incredibly tasty.
Good range of cask beers, nice atmosphere, plenty of games available to while away the time.
Hotel Alga - Calella de Palafrugell
Joan Pericot Garcia 55, 17210 Calella de Palafrugell

This hotel far exceeded our expectation – the photos and description don’t do this place justice.
Superb refurbishment of rooms making them modern and airy. We had a standard room which was incredibly spacious.
Aircon is modern allowing various settings such as fan, heat, aircon or dehumidfier.
There’s a proper coffee machine like a Nespresso/Pod machine in your room – the first two Pods are free thereafter 1 euro each – a great facility and alternative to the instant coffee, kettle etc you usually find at hotels.
Good breakfast buffet served till 11am at the weekends which you can take outside by the pool surrounded by the wonderful mature garden settings.
We also ate twice in the evening at the hotel (which I rarely ever do) – the set menu of three courses offering a tantalising choice and exceptional value at 20 Euros.
Great pool length which is restricted for use from 11am which makes sense as if I had a balcony view I’d hate to be woken early though I am a early morning length swimmer.
There’s also a Table-Tennis table and Table Football.
Staff are simply brilliant and most tri-lingually excellent – what I heard what Spanish, Catalan, English and French.
Finally it’s a great location for the nearby beaches and town of Callel de Palafrugell which is five minutes away.
In short, for a six night stay – I find it hard to fault this place.
Flavour Of India - Reading
262 Oxford Road, Reading, Berkshire RG30 1AD
09-09-2011
Recommended to me by a good trusted friend who then texted back later apologising to say he’d heard the place had changed hands and wasn’t as good as it was – too late, we’d bought a takeaway.
All I can say is it’s okay but far too greasy.
I’m sure there are better Indians in Reading but I think it’s going to be a job to find one!
Go get yourself a Thai if you’re visiting as they’re all very good here in Reading.
London Street Brasserie - Reading
2-4 London Street, Reading, Berkshire RG1 4PS

Just eaten there for the fourth time. The first three times were exceptional. The Fourth started badly as both our mains were cool to luke-warm but the response shows the quality of the place compared to anything else in Reading.
The Assistant Manager simply said he’d like to reset and start the main courses again, ensuring the food was prepared afresh and taken to our table directly from the pans. Brilliant.
Food was exceptional as ever though a little pricey but you get what you pay for and importantly you get the service you expect when things aren’t right for you.
The Moderation - Reading
213 Caversham Road, Reading, Berkshire RG1 8BB
01-08-2011
Belonging to a group of three Reading public houses, we principally came to the The Moderation to eat on a Saturday night.
We called ahead and a reserved table was there for us on arrival.
The menu is European and Asian but in a broad sense with popular dishes from Fish n Chips through to Balinese Lamb Curry – they were all lovely though personally I thought the chips served with Peri-peri Chicken not up to scratch.
One thing to say is the size of the Appetisers; HUGE and great value! If I’d known, I genuinely would have just stuck with a main or for a lighter meal just stick with an Appetiser.
Food service was odd though: they could do with explaining on the menu’s to order from the bar.
When it came to paying, I went up but they said they’d bring the bill over which they did but doesn’t that suggest they bring a card machine to the table? No, in the end I went up to pay.
Oh, talking of drinks, again there is a brilliant selection: For Wine, you could even select a Berkshire wine and beers, an excellent selection of draughts and ales.
Thai Corner - Reading
47 West Street, Reading, Berkshire RG1 1TZ

Great and extensive menu which can be downloaded from their website in advance.
Starters were incredibly poor value when you look at the price for them however we were more than satisfied with the value, size, taste of the mains – one each and a couple of rices (boiled and egg-fried) to share plus a Thai Papaya Salad and a traditional bowl of Pad Thai at the end though I was surprised when they brought it out with the rest of the dishes as I had asked for the Pad Thai to come towards the end of the main meal.
One of our mains was the Sea Bass which was gorgeous and done to perfection and you can tell it was good as we couldn’t stop eating though we were all full.
Good wine list and we went for the Sancerre that was good (restaurant) value at £20 a bottle.
One of the best Thai’s I’ve had a long while and that’s saying something seeing the amount of Thai’s I’ve eaten especially in Brighton & Hove!
Cafe coho - Brighton
53 Ship Street, Brighton BN1 1AF
25-07-2011
My first visit so I asked for their speciality – they were good as they asked what sort of coffee I liked. I said Black Americano’s but I wanted something different, so I got a Mocha and it was good.
But Mocha’s are not my speciality so I’m going back again to try the Long Black.
Sandwiches and food looks fab. I had a doughnut (lunchtime) and it was dry, hence the mark down.
BUT I’m going back!

Absolutely excellent chips.
Inside, evidently this takeaway and restaurant is trying hard and doing well even sampling grilled fish!
Offers all the other usual options like pies and veggie options.
So good we’ve just ordered a second portion of chips!
