Cafe of Good Hope - Hither Green

216-218 Hither Green Lane, London SE13 6RT

What an excellent street cafe!

We were looking for a Sunday Breakfast that wasn't necessarily a fry-up; a place that offered good ingredients and tastes but was it possible in and around Catford?

I'm not too sure the Barista really understood how to make a Cortado but the coffee was a like a strong Latte.

I chose Bacon and Halloumi with Rocket and Chilli Jam Sandwich which I loved and haven't as yet managed to recreate.

We sat on the street which was fine.

It is a little pricier but you get waht you pay for and this seems a nice place.

Very Important Qyper medal for bexb-d

bexb-d I love love love Halloumi and I completely agree you want a brunch type thing but not a fry up. It sounds great! Was it a busy street? Or fairly quiet?

The Hoxton Grille - Shoreditch

We stayed overnight and decided to enjoy Brunch/Lunch the next day, taking advantage of the £13.50 for two courses deal.

I very much enjoyed the starter of Bacon with black pudding Hash topped with a Poached egg.

The main was Risotto with Mushroom and Spinach but it wasn't that special meanwhile my Partner had whole prawns with Fennel and Tomato.

I can't say either of us were enthralled. I think I would have enjoyed a Lamb Burger more but in all the food was ok.

The Waiter was friendly without being intrusive.

The experience was slightly marred by seeing a Service Charge on the Bill - I would have been quick happy to tip the guy.

In all, if I wasn't eating here on the deal we were on (2 courses £13.50) I would not have paid more.

bexb-d I’ve been to the Hoxton Grille too and thought the food was lovely, but not out there. But it was a meal and the menu was interesting. Ah the joys of service charge, I think that’s the standard in any restaurant these days!

Toasted Cheese & Pickle wasn't exactly hot inside but okay.

This place needs to up it's game for coffee quality seeing Costa are in town.

They do very nice cakes though!

Benito's Hat - Fitzrovia

Went here for lunch while I was in London.

Had the Braised Chicken Burrito with the hot sauce. It was good but not exceptional.

This is a place for a tasty quick bite and not a place to charm a partner despite offering a 'bar'. For that, Qype somewhere else.

Fish Brasserie - Brighton

We were here on the Groupon Fish n Chip deal.

Fish was cooked just right but I've had better batters.

As to the chips, I've had much better.

We ordered the Montepulciano wine by the glass which was very reasonable in price, available in all sizes.

The ladies next to us had ordered Steak, which looked huge and served rare.

The menu is extensive, some of the fish dishes sounded lovely.

Service was a little slow but again adequate.

If I was in the Marina and hungry I'd probably go again otherwise I wouldn't make a bee line for the place.

Got tempted into the place after seeing on the menu Huevos Rancheros - a combination of free range fried or scrambled eggs, chorizo, black beans, jack cheese, adobe sauce, avocado & tomato salsa on warm tortilla. You can have a veggie option with roasted field mushrooms.

For the price of £8.25, when it comes it looks somewhat disappointing in size however the combination of flavours and that it is served on a large flat tortilla, you are soon full.

The eggs were perfect, the yolks akin to poached, slightly firm on the outer with a runny centre. The Avocado was firm but not entirely tasteless though could have been richer in flavour and the same for the tomato, a little lacking in flavour.

The black beans and Adobe sauce certainly lifted the dish along with the optional Chipolte sauce.

Initially the service was second to none, friendly and attentive without being patronising however this slipped after I had finished eating with my bill and takeout coffee (Union roasted) taking too long and required prompting.

On the whole, will certainly come again as there's another Mexican breakfast dish on the menu.

Reading Spice - Reading

8 Station Rd, Reading, Berkshire RG1 1JX

I was starting to think that you couldn't get a decent curry anymore in Reading - when I say decent, something that isn't swimming in oil and avoids the usual curry dish cliché like Vindaloo.

Then again I've been spoilt for some time with Chilli Pickle & Indian Summer in Brighton and if Reading Spice were a visitor to Brighton, it would be a contender.

There are plenty of Meat/Poultry/Fish/Vegetarian dishes AND vegetable sides - the difficulty has been to choose.

We've now eaten twice here when we've visted Reading last time we picked a Tandoori Grill (that was enough for two), Dhal Makhani (black lentils in a creamy sauce), rice and some speciality bread (i've forgotten the name of).

Excellent drinks selection and service is very good.

10% off for collection - they also deliver.

Fellini Trattoria & Bar - Hove

First, there's a hell of a lot more than just pizza and pasta on the menu (you can download their salivating menu via their website).

Secondly, the food here is seriously good even though it is a little on the pricey side but for it and what you get, you can't argue - we ended up having three courses - well, two and a half (we shared the Dessert) which I topped off with a beautiful Espresso.

The space is lovely; I'd been before when it was the Gallery but I like this the more.

There was just one problem. Where we sat, near the stairs at the back - the aircon was blowing down on us and a little chilly but here were no problems with us relocating to the centre table when we asked but if it had been busier - there could have been a problem and so I've marked it down a star.

One other thing I'll say which I never say about Italian places; I'm going again and suggest you do too.

Was here yesterday for a lunch with a member and had to settle for the fish & chips with mashed peas.

The batter has to be one of the best I have ever had and the fish inside so perfectly cooked – served with delicious freshly made Tartare Sauce.

I’m only giving a 4 stars because my first option, Red Snapper with Samphire wasn’t available!
