This restaurant in simple with an authentic atmosphere... feels very family run. Easy friendly service, reasonable prices and amazing food. Have the kebabs with rice and there is always a great dish of the day. I love going back again and again for a fix of homely traditional cooking.

After an extensive search, I can safely say that Alounak (Russell Gardens) is the best Persian restaurant in London. It has a solid selection of succulent lamb and chicken kebabs (best explored by ordering the mixed grill), by far and away the tastiest Koobideh in town. You can get 2 of them and a plate of rice for £7!

The decor is terrifically authentic and leaves you feeling warm from the moment you step foot in the door, though some will argue that is down to the oven that churns out order after order of taftoon bread, cooked to perfection every time (soft on the outside crispy in the middle). The menus are helpful and each dish is well described and affordably priced. The staff are friendly and always try to accommodate you and ensure you have a pleasant dining experience. Finally, and most importantly of all, it’s BYOB… so the bill will rarely break the bank!

I’ve been to this BYO restaurant a couple of times and particularly enjoy the fresh bread that is baked in a traditional oven in front of you. Also, if you don’t know what to order, they have a dish of the day that generally gives an adequate representation of what it’s all about. Service can be a little hit and miss but the food is excellent and great value

This is a Persian restaurant which began life in a shack opposite Kensington Olympia station. Now there are two branches - one in Russell Gardens and one on Westbourne Grove. The kebabs are very good and come with rice. Try the chicken kebab when you want a change from lamb. About £12pp ex-drinks.
