What a shame! Always irritating when the service and food isn't great.

Very mediocre faire. Traditional decor earns them a star.
Recieved terrible service and what amounted to a scowl when, aftyer spending the best part of £50 we asked if our young nephew coupld use the toilet- hard to believe theyu havent got one.
Sure our fish was re-frioed as well.
Really let down, its not hard to get a chippy right is it??

well they seem to have mixed reviews so maybe i got unlucky. In france its the law that if you have a sit down meal you must have a toilet available, i think we should do the same here.

Dirty shop dirty fat used to fry with soggy batter and dried chips.I remember when this used to be the best fish and chip shop in London.I used to travel miles specially to eat there now I walk past three times a week look in the window and despair as it gets emptier and emptier and at the low quality food they now serve.

Thank gawd for @master-bates. If i hadn't read his review I would've thought I'd gone mad.
I live about 10 mins from this joint and I almost never get a takeaway. Tonight, dunno why, I was just in the mood for fish n chips.
So I troll up Theobald's Rd, quivering with excitement at the thought of really good Friday night nosh.
Well. I'm not quivering now. I'm as limp as the utterly ordinary (okay, rubbish) food I just ate.
Any chippy, anytime, anywhere, is as good as this. Not worse, but every bit as good. Which is to say: completely medicore.
Seriously, fellow citizen-reviewers, have you ever actually eaten good fish and chips? Where the chips are crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle? Where the fish still tastes of the sea? Have you? Really?
Until recently I lived at the seaside. Okay, they have an advantage in the freshness department. But honestly, even the worst chippy in my old town was better than this.
Giving five stars to this sort of swill is an insult to statisticians.
Avoid!

Expensive for what it is, but then again this is central london. The chips were nice although a bit dry. My fish was very well cooked, but the batter was a let down because it was very thin and not crisp. It's ok - I liked what I ate and staff were friendly, but nothing special. If you are a tourist and want to try fish and chips then here would be a good place to go.

The best place I know for fish and chips. Every time I go, it’s always a haddock and fries for me. And all that for less than 7 pounds despite the location its at. It can be very popular during peak periods and there won’t be any seating available then as this place is rather small. But you will still be able to take away, which is as fast as you can see them make it.
There are really only 2 guys and 1 waitress handling the store, but service is good because there aren’t too many people in the store at any one time.

Always my friday treat!!!
Don’t go for the Cod though, they always pre-make them---stick to the Haddock or Plaice, which is done more freshly.

This is by far the best authentic fish & chip restaurant in london. Don’t expect it to look nice, that’s not what this place is about. It’s about fish & Chips made just how they are meant to be. Once you’ve tried this you wont bother with anywhere else in london (unless you’re in Grimsby where it’s even better!)

What a wonderful place - occupied a table with some colleagues from work and we had a great lunch - various types of fish all round that was superbly cooked. An authentic old-fashioned London chippy with formica tables etc. Queues to sit down too so very popular indeed…
One observation though - because this really is an authentic 'London’ chippy you won’t find mushy peas, curry sauce or gravy on the menu -you only get that 'oop north ;)

The Fryers Delight is a great change from the myriad collection of kebab shops, fried chicken outlets and generally unimaginitive fast food in central london. It is a proper 'old school' chippy, complete with an eat-in menu at one of the formica tables inside.
It sells proper chips at a reasonable price and is great to grab a snack from if you are heading into town. Alternatively, treat yourself to a sit down meal of fish n chips, bread and butter and a nice mug of tea.
Its clientele are locals and office workers who are in the know, and whilst it is always busy, you never have to wait too long to get served! A steady stream of taxi drivers is all the advertising that a place like this needs...
