Great Thai food with a heavy emphasis on fish, I had the salt and pepper squid for a starter and followed it by a really great Red Thai Curry of sea bream, Good sized portions and very well presented.
We were here with friends who live near to the restaurant and they tell me it is always full so booking advisable.
Value for money and I will be back!!
best thai food i ever had.
The food was ok, but not great. The staff were ok, but not really that pleasant or attentive and the atmosphere was just ok. So ok really. Probably better to get a take away!
We ordered takeaway from giggling squid on a Saturday night. Although their food are tasty, it's just way way overpriced. Example: "Prawn Ma Kham" costs £8.95 but there're only 3 prawns. Most of dishes were made up with cabbage & onions to make it look fuller and the actual "meat" were very little and pathetic.
I will definitely visit again for their lunch special and lunch special only. They are good, but not THAT good!
I went here one evening, they were incredibly busy, and we had to wait a long time for the food. I didn't mind the wait - they were full. But they were very nice about it - and brought us a free desert (without our having said anything). In terms of food, I thought it was solid, if unremarkable. I would give 3.5, but as I can't 4.
A buzzy, busy Thai place on Church Street with a very slightly quieter room upstairs. The food is great, putting to shame a number of Thai places not only elsewhere in the city but also in London. Their signature dish - yes, giggling squid - is excellent, but it is well worth trying different dishes to see what you think. In three visits we have not had a real disappointment. Not that expensive, and worth booking ahead almost any evening of the week.
The Giggling Squid in Hove is located approximately 45 seconds from the door of my office, which makes it the perfect place to go and grab a lunchtime bite.
Their lunchtime menu offers excellent value for money, with their “Two Dish Meal Combi’s” – a choice of vegetarian, chicken or prawn at £5-£5.95. For this price you get a choice of either vegetable tempura, spring roll, dumpling or prawn on toast accompanied by a small meal.
My personal favourite (and exceptional value for money) is the “One Big Dish” – a choice of either Pad Thai, Green Curry, Red Curry (my favourite), Cashew Stir Fry, Grilled Beef & Sticky Rice or Beef & Oyster Sauce which cost between £5.50 and £6.30. An absolute bargain as for that money you feel completely stuffed... then go back to the office and fall asleep.
I’ve always found the service here, along with their other restaurant in The Lanes, to be warm, friendly and welcoming. For this I’m more than willing to overlook the fact that when it’s busy, it can be a little slow.
Plus, you get jelly beans with your bill. What more could you want?
PaulHatcher Hi Alice, Just wanted to say that the entry you wrote on 19/04/10 about the Gluten Free brownies in The Mad Hatter are made by my wife and I AKA Prosperity Brownies. Glad you like them and keep spreading the word!

Best Thai food in Hove? Hmmm, I think not.
The staff are friendly and, although rather cramped, the general ambience is pleasant.
My major issue was with the food, which was almost cold when it arrived and very, very bland.
I have been all over Thailand and have been eating Thai food for over 10 years. Several people told me that this place served authentic Thai dishes, and most of the familiar favourites are there.
However, the food just wasn't tasty. Hard to put your finger on it, but all 4 people in our group were disappointed with the non-existent flavours.
If this were the only Thai in the area, it would certainly be passable, but with at least 2 better options within 5 minutes, I will not be back.
I tried to visit this place with a group of people as had been told good things about it but they gave us a table about 2ft off the ground that we couldn't physically fit our knees underneath. We left.
In many places authenticity can hinder such things as originality and creativity. Rest assured this isn't the case with Hove's only Thai Seafood place, the Giggling Squid.
While you're likely to taste some genuine Thai flavors, the rustic design and eclectic atmosphere allows Tapas to creep onto the menu without too much fuss. For example, you can get a set of 4 Tapas dishes for £7, which makes for a great lunch. However, I'd recommend you stick to the Thai food, as it's obviously what comes naturally to the kitchen staff. In particular the two for £5 lunch deal is great value for the quality. With such carefully seasoned dishes and a large menu it's definitely the kind of place you could visit regularly without getting bored.
loved it!
went with my boyfriend and couldn't ask for a more enjoyable thai meal.
great selection on menu including a fresh fish section sourced locally. This thai specialises in seafood in addition to meat and veg dishes.
We had beautiful ginger scallops, lamb massaman curry and pad thai. We also had the "giggling squid" (similar to dumplings where baby squid is stuffed with mincemeat) ...delicious.
Thinks it really good value no different to thai prices elsewhere wines good price and the house white is really nice.
Apparently is known to be abit of a ladies restuarant (a friend said this) and i had noticed on the thurs night we were there, there was a number of tables with groups of women - apparently cos of decor and small portions. On the contrary i'd say the portions were pretty good in size so not sure about that one. Either way definately try it whoever you are.
