A really nice food stall – these folks deserve to go far. I stumbled on this stall entirely accidentally , while nipping to the Rymans at the other end of the street, so I’m not a regular. What I can say, however, is that the carne con adobo I had was great, very tasty and reasonably priced ( £6 for a meal box). I’m not an expert on “real” mexican food, but it’s very pleasing to be offered something other than things-in-a-tortilla. I also think the idea of hiring Arturo ( ? ) to cater parties is great; I’m sure he’d do a cracking job.
As an ex- New Yorker who was mourning the loss of good mexican food I have to say…
Buen Provecho is the bomb, it’s the real deal and great value.
Only issue I have with it is they only use one corn tortilla and the fillings break through that one quickly so you end up with an exploded taco.
My advice to them would be to charge a little extra and give two tortillas per taco, you need them for structural integrity.
Many thanks to my fellow Qypers for pointing me in the direction of this fantastic food stall near Waterloo. Following the review by Mike Butcher Buen Provecho had been on my "check it out" list for some time and I finally got round to making the walk across town to Lower Marsh Street for my lunch this Tuesday.
There was a short queue of what were obviously regular customers when I arrived which gave me a chance to mull over the short menu. It had to be the tacos for me and after a bit of quick internal debate I settled on the cochinta pibil. Service was very friendly and in a minute or two my tacos had been warmed on the hot plate and piled high with succulent pork and a dollop of mole sauce. Your tacos come in a small cardboard take away box and you help yourself to tomato and onion salsa, the fantastic hot smoky salsa and a great guacamole. No extra charge here for your guacamole which makes a nice change and I think the help yourself bit helps the customer feel really engaged.
I grabbed some kitchen roll, you're going to need it because these bad boys can be a little messy when dining al fresco, and made my way over the road to the very thoughtfully located Waterloo Millennium Green. On this lovely sunny spring day I was lucky to bag a bench on which to chow down. 15 minutes later I was licking my lips; a very happy man with a big smile on my face and full belly. For a brief moment I felt quite giddy and I considered if I could possibly squeeze in a couple pollo con mole tacos; I wisely decided to leave that for another day.
As it says on the blackboard this is authentic Mexican food; it’s expertly prepared, highly flavoured and is going to make your day. It might "only" be a street stall but this is top notch food served up by a couple of lovely people who are obviously very proud of what they are doing.
I returned the next day and gorged myself on a "lunchbox" of the blissful pork, rice, beans, salsa and guacamole. The best £6 I have spent in a very long time.
I'm already looking forward to my next visit to Buen Provecho. Bring on the working week …….
alexsheppard Wish I worked closer to Waterloo! And free guacamole is a lovely touch too - rare in London.

NunheadNeil Alex - treat yourself to a long lunch break and wander over. Don't think you will be disappointed.
These guys have also been making an appearance at the Rye in Peckham of an evening recently if that is a little closer to home.

This is the best Mexican food in London. Authentic, delicious, awesome tacos and salsas. Way ahead of any Mexican restaurants in London. Highly recommended. Plus we hired Arturo, who owns this stall, for a private party for 15 people. He brought all the food freshly cooked, prepared/heated it in our kitchen and left us to enjoy our party. Excellent service, and a great friendly guy!
NunheadNeil Thank you Mr Butcher - now trying to work out how I can get over here during the day!!

There has meant to be a revolution in Mexican food in London. That said, I've yet to find anywhere as authentic or delicious as this tiny stall. No burritos (they're an American invention). Instead, a variety of sensational tacos and salsas. This is streets ahead of any of the new wave of Mexican food restaurants in London. I can't recommend it highly enough.
Forget Tex-Mex this is the real taste of homemade Mexican food - fresh salsas, a menu that changes each week and Arturo's friendly service - try it!
This little Mexican place is awesome. Way better than all the chain places that are popping up everywhere.
It's proper homemade food served with a big friendly smile, and it's all very very healthy! Lovely salsa and guacamole to take away too. Five greedy stars from me.

Fantastic, authentic Mexican food. The best I've had in London. Superb value, too. If you're ever around Waterloo during the week you've got to check this place out.
