Hesperia Bilbao, Bilbao

I would happily recommend this hotel. It looks pretty on the inside as well as on the outside, is situated on the river bank virtually opposite the Guggenheim Museum and between two landmark bridges.

Having said that, sometimes minor problems do occur. They promise to supply various toiletries, but for some reason often forget certain items. The lights in the corridor switch on automatically when you walk by - but not so fast. You have to slow down to avoid walking in total darkness and possibly bumping into something big like a cleaning lady's trolley. When I checked in, the wash basin was for some reason plugged so tight it took a technician to unplug it.

A waiter who came into my room with dinner broke a wine glass into tiny bits all over the carpet. This was clearly dangerous yet I had to phone reception myself to explain they needed to do a better job collecting the shards. And their English is not so good.

But you could do worse than staying in this hotel in Bilbao. Besides its location, it is nice, elegant, with large and comfortable rooms. Every day they leave you a little chocolate. Breakfast is delicious and I found room service reasonably priced compared with local restaurants (mind those wine glasses!).
