A proper club. No gimmicks, great booming sound system, doormen who don’t punch people and a great range of drinks - cherry beer on draught my favourite :)

Independent's a pretty decent place, Sunderland's 'Indie' club. Plays the usual type of music rock/indie music with a few more dancey tracks thrown in too.

The place is set over two rooms, the first is a dance floor, small raised area with couches and a bar. The other room is just chairs tables a few old couches and a bar.

Both are quite dirt and grubby looking, and where ever you go expect your feet to stick, but don't let this put you off. It's one of the better places to go in Sunderland and welcome change from the rest of the nightlife.

Drinks are pricey for the style of the place and there aren't many offers on. Live bands from around the area play regularly and they occasionally get some bigger names; it's worth looking out for whose playing.
