The two places that really made what I consider a decent hamburger were the now defunct 'Wolfe's" (still one in Covent Garden) on Knightsbridge and the 'Texas Lone Star' mini chain, also closed down.
I also thought the US chain 'Wendy's' was the best fast food hamburger joint but they too no longer have UK branches!
I think GBK (Gourmet Burger Kitchen) are quite good but lack the juicy succulence that I admire in a top patty.
Byron is one step closer to what I am after.
The burger patties are just better than their competitors.
The chips are OK but I would happily nix them to avoid a few carbs.
The service at this South Kensington branch is fine and despite being only a few doors away from a GBK I think they are a welcome addition to Old Brompton Road.
RECOMMENDED!

Went there for Saturday lunch with family (read kids aged 10 and under) and Friends (same profile).
Kids enjoyed the burgers/shakes, and the service was good, prompt and with smiles.
The burgers were ok , but I am not convinced they are the best possible, for a place that claims to specialise in them. Mine was fairly plain, even with the Byron sauce, that sounds great, but actually a bit devoid of taste.
Good for kids etc, and so would happily go back. A different experience to my visit to the Soho branch (reviewed seperately), which I would not repeat.

My boyfriend and me went there because he was in the mood for burgers and i had a craving for red meat (but steak was too expensive). We ordered the cheese burger (with cheddar), the skinny burger (medium-rare) and the chips and all of it was extremely tasty. The medium rare burger even satisfied my craving, since the beef was good (and not some dry, overly done, hard patty).
My side salad was quite small but nonetheless fine.
For drinks we had the fresh lemonade (tasty) and the oreo milkshake (fantastic).
The staff was extremely friendly, too. I would go there again, anytime, if it was not so far away. :-(

I went here with my boyfriend and despite it being famous because of the burgers, I didn't feel like eating so much meat that day and I went for the Portobello mushroom and mozzarella salad, that sounded quite appealing in the menu. I was completely disappointed. The ingredients seemed to have been thrown in the plate without even being cut. The lettuce leaves that I wasn't able to fit them in my mouth. I had to cut up everything. The bacon wasn't crispy but rubbery and for the almonds I got 4 whole raw almonds. Also, it was supposed to have "honey balsamic dressing" and I couldn't taste any honey at all, but just some cheap vinegar. The portobello mushrooms were fine.
My boyfriend ordered the Byron burger and was quite satisfied, though, so if I ever give this place a second chance, I'll stay away from the salads.
