one of our favourite places to go when its a sunny sunday....you can walk around the lovely countryside, meander around looking at the biker's motorbikes, have a bite to eat (delicious food) in the restaurant or cafe, or just have a picnic in the sun ....bliss.

Rivington Barn is brilliant. It's a truly magnificent hall which dates from the 1200's and is a stone's throw from some stunning woodlands and ornamental Chinese gardens built by former resident and nut-job, Lord Leverhulme.

There's a cracking little tea room that's pretty functional in terms of what it sells (tea, coffee, flapjacks, etc) but you couldn't wish for anything more as the surroundings are so achingly lovely.

If you were looking for an idyllic setting for a wedding, Rivington Hall Barn is tough to beat.

Also, if you're a biker, then a ride through the Pennines should definitely be on the cards. Every Sunday, hundreds (if not thousands) of people in leather congregate here (and the nearby Lower Barn) to show off their gleaming machines and generally dribble over the finer points of tweaked engines and buffed exhaust pipes (or whatever it is you perverts talk about).

In short, should you be in the area and be faced with reasonable weather, make a bee-line for this place. You'll be fizzing with enthusiasm about it for weeks.

If you are an organiser for a luncheon Club or any similar group of elderly people then Rivington Barn is an ideal destination for a day trip with your group.
Several days a week the Barn itself is open for large groups to go along and enjoy a meal and an afternoon of entertainment. The Barn is a large building and has a large central dancefloor area, surrounded by dining tables and chairs, there is also a bar area and small gift shop as well as toilet facilities.
The afternoons are usually booked at an all inclusive price for meals and entertainment. There is a choice of traditional meals such as Lancashire Hot Pot, or Fish and chips, followed by dessert, and tea/coffee.The food is usually well cooked and piping hot and service is efficient. Entertinment usually takes the form of dancing, several spots by an artiste, and cash bingo.
The building is all on one level so ideal for those with mobility issues, there is plenty of space for wheelchairs to get about and a large coach park adjacent to the Barn. For the more able bodied there are some lovely walks in the grounds on warmer days and you may bump into the resident peacocks.

Review of rivington barn from 16 January 2009

We’ve attended a few events at Rivington Barn itself over the years here and it’s not a bad place at all.

Perhaps it’s best enjoyed in the summer; the views are beautiful and on a long summer’s evening it’s very relaxing to be able to see the hills and moors in the background. The setting is certainly one of its strongest points. Of course, its setting can be a disadvantage -- it’s sufficiently remote that the only way of getting there is by car, and that means that one person in the party can’t drink…

Inside, the facilities are very good for weddings or for other events. There’s plenty of car parking and the staff are friendly and helpful.

All in all, a lovely place for a special occasion, especially in the summer.

Really great venue for a Wedding. lovely scenery and great for pictures. Centered in the lovely surroundings of Rivington, the Barn is available for ladies nights, weddings and many a dinner/barn dance. Sundays are always good as you get the bikers displaying their new leathers and comparing engine size. As well as this you also get a BBQ outside (weather dependant) and a lovely little restaurant inside with a home made fudge stall and lots of lovely little antique stalls.

Great place for a day out. The barn holds regular events - arts/crafts, Kayleigh at New Year etc. Great walks all around the area. 10 mins from Junction 5 M61.

This is an amazing place on most Sundays. Bikers meet here from all over the place, riding many miles just to show off their bikes and have a drink and a chat with like-minded people. All are welcomed and many bikers will talk about their bikes until the light fades!
The cafe at the top of the hill is quite an impressive structure and has a very basic array of foods and drinks plus a licensed bar.
The area itself is huge and features many scenic walks.
No entrance fee.
