After one of my party-goer friends had been told by the owner to come down, have fun and armed with one of those flyers that gets you in for free on a Saturday night, you can imagine the distaste in my mouth when, after lining up for half an hour, my party was told it was "members only tonight" and was turned away at the entrance. After re-checking the flyer and seeing that there was written on there "free membership available from G-A-Y Late" you can understand my confusion. Now, I'm a pretty easy going person so I was a little unclear on a few things such as: a) why no-one came up the long line whilst we were waiting to explain this to us and the many people behind and b) why couldn't we just sign up as members there and then? So, I went up to the security guards (if that's what you can call them) to ask why we couldn't when people after us were being let in without question or as much as a second glance with nothing but a flyer themselves? What also perturbed me was the fact that this place is meant to be a gay bar however, a lot of 'straight' looking females and males were being let in the door. Needless to say, the bouncers were rather unfriendly and very unhelpful! So after asking for the manager a camp little man gave me the name, number and email for the General Manager. So not only could I not speak to the manager directly but camp-man told me, once I had asked to see the owner, that the owner wasn't there when my party-goer friend saw him whilst in the line not fifteen minutes earlier. When I explained this to them they simply ignored me. Well if it's one thing I can't stand, it's bad manners, especially at a place where they claim is a gay bar but probably have less than twenty gay men in there and even less gay females! Luckily, I was in there a few months ago and wasn't really impressed by anything in there to make me want to pursue the issue further, however, I thought you would like to know about my experience. SO, you might want to think twice about spending your hard earned cash on these unworthy, hypocritical recipients if you're looking for a great night out with people of your own kind!
