5 reviews of Genco Male Emporium in English
I actually found this place using the Qype app while I was getting the worst haircut of my life just around the corner.
(We’ll call this other salon “Goni & Tuy”. There… hopefully I got away with that.)
As I sat, exasperated, in the rival salon the thought occurred to me: “surely there must be a better option in the area!”
There is.
Genco is fantastic and I have subsequently told at least three other people about it. It’s well-priced, friendly, with excellent service and a great vibe. You know you’re onto a winner when you can surreptitiously (in the mirror) watch locals and regulars wander in and out on a busy Saturday morning.
I live and work in the area which means this place is walking distance for me but.. should that change… I would commute across town to come here.
LITTLE TIP: Sign up to the mailing list on their website to get a discount off your first cut.
Many thanks to Paul. First cut for him since back from India. Spot on, even my dodgey hair pattern at back. Great atmosphere, freindly team, non pretentious.
See you guys soon
I was expecting so much from my first hair cut, esp having read the many positive reviews and the salon's website, only to be somewhat disappointed! The stylist was 'ok' and there was no consultation as to what look was appropriate although I must add that the environment and ambiance of the place was superb. Overall a very relaxing environment and good customer service but not the perfect haircut for the price I paid!
bharatp Hey we're sorry that our cut didn't live up to your expectations. It is rare for us to get it wrong but it does happen. We're glad that you have commented as it gives us the chance to improve. Looks like we didn't do a thorough enough consultation on this occassion which is unlike us as we take the consultation seriously. If you do come back make yourself known and we'll make amends.

I bought my husband a gift certificate for a massage and a "shavel" when Genco first opened (about 3 years ago, I think) as I am a big believer in supporting local and independent businesses. It was a risk as my husband is a blokey Kiwi who was more used to the £10 barber shop experience but he really loved it and has been getting his hair cut there ever since. It’s a great hour of relaxation for him every time he goes and he is well looked after by the staff (and comes out looking quite dishy as well). Highly recommended!
This is the ultimate man's place. Cool decor, eclectic music in the salon, really good chat and the hair cuts are great. The Shavel is our own take on the cut throat shave. A very relaxing 40 minutes swathed in hot towels, includes a deep cleanse and exfoliation then being shaved the closest you have ever been by an expert using a cut throat. The treatment room provides facials, manicures, pedicures, waxing, bronzing and muscle-melting massages.
I’ve been heading to Genco for close to 2 years, roughly since the place opened. It’s not the cheapest, but if you want a great haircut (Tony is excellent), a shave, skincare etc I’d highly recommend it.
Great staff and atmosphere. More like a blokes pamper session, so allocate an hour or more.
