Yep. Big thumbs up to the Coach and Horses, who have some of the nicest bar staff ever. The food the dished up was fab, and they were extra helpful at the Qype party by making sure they came straight to my two veggie friends as soon as new veg kebabs were ready. This was very sweet.
The pub is great. It’s old school and quite off the beaten track for a Soho pub. No bad thing. I liked being led through the actual bar to get upstairs, and the little smoking part of the pub was a lot of fun and seemed to be having a party all on its own.
Nothing to complain about with this pub. I’ll be coming back soon - if only to abuse their free wi-fi while I drink beer and pretend to be working.

There’s something exciting about being lead through the bar and out the back by a good looking bargirl - and she did not disappoint; for this was the way to the upstairs function room. And last night was qype night. The room is a little on the small side, but that’s no bad thing when you want to meet up with new folk. The chef had taken a rather vaudeville approach to platter production; trays of spanish omlette, prawn cocktail, cottage pies in beakers and egg mayo sandwiches as the piéce de la resistance.
It would’ve been annoying for the smokers to troop downstairs every time they fancied a crafty tab, thankfully there’s a private alley-balcony on which to smirt.
I liked it, even the unisex loo.

I seem to be in agreement with other Qypers, this is a proper Soho boozer and is deserved of all five of its stars. As the last poster said the upstairs rooms are as relaxed as being at a friends, I was lucky enough to attend a party here earlier in the year and it was one of the highlights of my year so far. The location is good if you want a central meeting point and the staff are friendly and fun. If you haven’t been convinced by the rest of the reviews I urge you to go – you know you want to !

Great pub in the heart of Soho, with a particularly nice function room upstairs! I felt really at home here, just like being in your own lounge. Thanks to everyone who came to the party last night, from what I can remember - it was a really good time!
Food was great - particularly the mini shepherds pies which my friends were raving about this morning! Big thanks to the landlord Alistair for letting us have the room, and to Jo and Denise for serving the drinks all night. I shall be back to sample the ale downstairs soon!

Hello everyone,
the Qype Party last night was awesome. The venue was great! Great choice! Thanks to the organizers, you did a great job!
You are all very nice. I am so happy that I came.
I met so many people last night, I made friends and planned to meet them so times next week.
I spent most of my time outside in the smoking area. It all started when I went there to smoke. I felt very lonely because I was on my own and then a few people came and some others after… We ended up staying there the whole night because the weather was great…
Thank you so much for the free drinks and free food. It was really appreciated.
I took a few pictures last night. I will try to upload them this week-end.
Well done guys!
I hope to see you soon.
Take care,
Emilie
PS: If you read this review and you were at the party last night and recognise me, please drop me an e-mail, I will be so happy to chat with you again. It is just that yesterday I was a bit “drunk” and did not get everyone’s name or usernames. Sorry… ;-)
And good luck to those who are working today… I don’t think I am going to be very efficient today…

This excellent pub in soho seems to attract a great group of people at each of the upstairs events I have attended. The pub itself is a mix of a traditional pub withb lots of history, and cutting edge modern technology for the “geeks of geet street”. The staff are friendly too.
I haven’t managed to hang out with the crown downstairs yet, but am sure that would be an experience in itself.

A distinctive pub with a character all its own, the Coach and Horses stands out among the more bland and colourless pubs that I’ve taken chances on around London.
The downstairs main part of the pub is a vibrant red-hued area while the private hire room upstairs that you can only get to by crossing through the bar is a much more subtle and artsy space that worked perfectly for a recent London Bloggers meetup.
I haven’t had a chance to try to food here yet but they certainly have an interesting lineup of pies (or pyes as they write ‘em) and main dishes that sounded tasty. What I did have however was a cherry-flavored beer since I was in the mood for something ‘different’ and it was quite good until about half-way through the big bottle when the bitterness of it started to be too much for my taste. Next time i’m there I’ve already promised myself I’ll give the food a go and see if it’s as good as the service and the overall likeability of the place.

Have finally seen the much used meeting venue upstairs. It was great and I would definitely recommend for intimate events (there’s a plasma screen for presos etc too).
Was slightly odd to go behind the bar to access the stairs and being given an escort to take us up there - but the small outside smoking area up there pleased me immensely.

It’s not hard to miss the Coach & Horses, down at the bottom of Greek Street. Most of the Soho buzz is a street or two away. It is, however, one of the proper and unpretentious pubs in Soho.
The pub isn’t very big inside, although (or maybe as a result) it retains a great deal of its Victorian charm. There are panels and mirrors, columns in what seem to be odd places, booths and stools, and a tiny entrance to the toilets. The meals available - sandwiches, hot pots, and some more substantial fare - can be found on various sheets of paper stuck to the walls.
The crowd can be a real mix, and often includes many of Soho’s journalists and writers. The Coach & Horses’ association with scribblers and playwrights, as well as some of its colourful proprietors, have made it somewhat famous. It’s quirky character seeps out in the little cracks and corners: the food board that is headed, “Eat, damn you!” and advertises “pyes”, or the playful Israeli bartender.
However, for those of us who simply want a relaxed surrounding, no modern chain-pub accoutrements, lots of ales and bottles on offer, and an eclectic crowd, this pub will do just fine.
A nice addition is the recently-opened private function room upstairs. You need to be admitted behind the bar to get to it, but once up the narrow twisting stairs you’ll find an open, comfortably appointed, dimly lit lounge that’s great for private hire for a couple of dozen people. There’s a small private bar to serve the room, plus a separate toilet, and it gets the same kitchen service as downstairs. I was in this room last night for a London Bloggers Meetup, and it served us really well. I’m told that Qype and other groups are planning to use the room for similar events. It’s a nice addition to the venue.

Ducked in for a quick drink on Tuesday night. Enjoyed the atmosphere and was most impressed with the friendliness of the staff - who also showed me the private function room they have upstairs. Seems to be a good selection of beers also. I’ll be popping back shortly for a taste of the hot pot, which along with a selection of very tasty sounding pies (or Pyes as they call them), makes a fairly handsome pub menu. Free Wi-Fi is an added bonus!

Not sure I can add much to the above - but again, a good old proper pub but with added wi-fi. What more can you ask for?
Looks like a great place to spend an afternoon getting a bit of work done.
Also make sure to visit the fantastic cafe next door (don’t know the name). Tania the proprietor is a hoot - great theatre for the price of a herbal tea and a croissant.

Trebles all round! I think I read Private Eye from about the age of 11 when I understood about 20% of its content. Now that I’m an old man (and understand around 25% of the content) I’m still thrilled to regularly visit the bar commemorated in Michael Heath’s The Regulars.
The reason I went with this place as the first venue for London’s nascent Social Media Café was, well, because Alastair was up for doing something different and willing to take a chance on us but it was also because I could see the continuity of the history of the pub as a gathering place for writers pushing at the boundaries of what is doable and acceptable.
It’s just a lovely London pub - it doesn’t feel like it’s trying to be anything, it just is what it is and certainly downstairs it looks as though its been that way for quite some time (as do the regulars drinking down the deep end). However, if you’re brave enough to ask permission to cross the threshold of the bar and creep upstairs, the dining room’s a real treat, very comfy and with cool views along Greek Street and Romilly Street and the menu is one of those that has me sitting going, oh, I don’t know, umm yes, I want it all please.

UPDATE:
It’s official: the Coach and Horses is the venue for the first ever Qype UK party:

Well what’s left to say about the Coach and Horses on greek Street? After all, there’s not many pubs in London that have played starring roles in hit plays!
The Coach and Horses is most famous for being the favourite pub of columnist Jeffrey Barnard who was immortalised in the play Jeffrey Barnard is Unwell, and the pub has been a haunt of various other Soho personalities.
The ex-landlord Norman Balon was also known as London’s Grumpiest Landlord, so people would come from miles away just to experience his grumpiness.
The beer isn’t cheap here, but if you can get a table on a weekday afternoon and let the afternoon slide away in a haze of ale and toasted sandwiches, theres few better places to watch London stroll by.
On a sidenote, the Coach and Horses has a great room upstairs serving ‘proper food’ (i.e. not just toasted sandwiches) which can also be rented out. It’s a cool little spot.

friendly, comfortable, yummy food, great company, welcoming host, good beer, rooms to hire and smack bang in the centre of Soho. What more do you want from a soho boozer?
Oh, and it’s a great location for Friday mornings for The Tuttle Club and we get looked after very well.

What a great place—friendly landlord and staff, very good pub grub, a nice dining area upstairs, and now live music is promised (disclaimer: I am playing piano for a sing-song there this Sunday evening!). Free wi-fi also makes this a good mobile worker hangout.
The Social Media Cafe, a networking event, is held in the upstairs dining room on Friday mornings. Right now, it is the most interesting opportunity to meet informed and interesting people in the Social Media space.
Recommended!

Fantastic fish and chips. Beautifully cooked & I found out afterwards that they’ll even remove the skin and cook the fish without batter if you wish.
The Guinness is great too - a smashing combination

This is a really nice little pub in the heart of Soho. A regular Wednesday night watering hole for me. I hear they are thinking of doing live music here soon. If it’s up to scratch, this place will easily graduate to 5*s.
Lots of real ale and friendly punters. Worth checking out if you are in Soho.

Great pub. Just got back from the social media cafe and had an excellent time. The upstairs function room is perfect for gatherings of 30-40 people and lots of places to go for a fag if you are a smoker. Ales on tap downstairs and very friendly staff. I can see myself becoming a regular!
