The Sea Tree

We went to The Sea Tree last night and can’t recommend it highly enough. We ate in, and as my partner doesn’t like traditional fish he opted for the scampi. It was nice enough and the chips were fine but not outstanding. However, my pan fried Sea Bass and New Potato Cake was out of this world, especially with the delicious Salsa Verde. I compared it to an award winning seafood restaurant that we often frequent on the coast. My tip would be to have the ‘real’ fish dishes if eating in, and my partner who has never tried Sea Bass before (as he hates fish!) pinched most of mine and will be ordering it next time!

Takeaway portions of chips are very small considering the price.

Billing itself as an althernative fish bar, this is a new and very welcome addition to Mill Road, which has hitherto lacked a decent fish and chips option.

So far we've only used The Sea Tree as a takeaway option (there is plenty of seating available) and so far we only have positive things to say about it.

They have a great menu that goes beyond the standard fish bar options and ventures into a range of seafood options, including calamari, fish pie, wild sea trout and tiger prawn salads. Don't come here for your saveloy. We've tried the cod, chips, mushy peas and calamari, all of which were excellent and only a little bit more expensive than your standard fish bar.

The service was excellent and they have a friendly and energetic vibe which makes you feel happy to hang around and wait for your order, in contrast to the many fish and chip shops where you can't wait to escape from the formica hell.

I hope The Sea Tree prospers in Cambridge. It deserves to.
