Agree with ahunter on the great value and tasty food. Some of the appetizers (like the samosa) does seem a bit small but the mains came with the daal and naan definitely helps you fill up with the 2 course deal. I had the minced lamb patties with tomato chutney for an appetizer and they were delish. Chicken curry was okay for me, not great. Overall great value lunch for the area.

A very decent 4 stars. We had the lunch menu here today which was excellent value and delicious. Portion size could have been a bit bigger, but for £8 for 2 courses what do you expect? Samosas were fresh and tasty and the chicken curry, with rice, naan and daal really hit the spot. Service was decent (although a bit vacant at times). It’s always a good sign when i say “I will definitely be coming back” and those were my exact words as we left Chowki today!

Wow - amazed no-one else has reviewed this place! A brilliant ‘Indian home-style’ eatery from Chef Kuldeep Singh - and part of the Mela (?) group which include Soho Spice and Mela. (Both excellent IMHO.)
Seating is informal and when went there was no pre-booking but this looks possible via the website. The value for money is amazing considering this is a central London location - A starter costs as little as £1.95, a main course plus accompaniments only £5.95 and a complete meal including a starter, main course plus the full range of accompaniments plus a dessert costs less than a tenner! We simply couldn’t believe the bill was correct. The menu rotates through different regions and if you want truly new dining sensations then pay them a visit.
(NB Chowki’s reservation number is in my cellphone…is that sad?)

Chowki is an odd but charming place, with interesting takes on home-cooked regional indian cuisine. The staff looked at me quizzically, but not in an unfriendly manner, when I enquired about vegetarian food, and suggested the set menu, which was good. The fruit juices were sublime.

- Unlike some places, each dish was spiced differently, which was refreshing - I would consider eating here again with a larger group to experience more dishes. set meal: around £15 p/p excl. drinks

I’ve been here several times with friends and with my partner and always found the food to be wonderful. The menu changes every month or so with a choice of starter, main and dessert from 3 regions, and you can mix and match. The feast is very good value but it’s always too much for me. The prices are very reasonable for the West End. The staff are always friendly and accomodating without being in your face. The atmosphere is casual and the customers a mix of local workers and tourists. You could take anyone here - parents, friends or groups and you’ll fit in.

Chowki just by Piccadilly Circus-an easy to get to place serves some really fantastic food based on all the different regions of India. The prices are very reasonable despite being in Central London. The reason why I like this place is because the menu changes regularly and if you go there be prepared for surprises e.g. in one visit you may get to eat Hyderbadi dishes, the next time you may get to eat Mangalor dishes. It is advisable to call ask what regional cuisine they are serving-and pop in if it is something you are partial to.

Although Madhu's in Southall in my favourite Indian restaurant ever, Chowki comes in a close second.

Chowki has long tables and benches that eaters share. There's lots of room, with two levels of seating.

It's very reasonably priced, and you can get a set menu of a curry, a side dish, and rice or naan for a single price that's cheaper than you'd pay otherwise. It comes in the types of sectioned dishes common in India and in cheaper eateries, but here those dishes are fine porcelain.

You can order anything from the a la carte menu, but the best aspect of Chowki is their rotating set menu. Each month they select different set menus from three different areas of India, so multiple visits throughout a year give you the chance to sample food from all over the subcontinent. Really delicious.

It's location makes it a great place to go before or after the theatre, or Regent Street shopping.
