I agree with Joizee. personally, I prefer the Taparia near the Landungsbrücken even though it is run by 2 German women..

I was really excited about going to Altamira; I had heard many good things about it! Unfortunately I had an extremely annoying experience at the Finanzambt, ánd got lost in Altona when trying to find the restaurant, so I was kind of in a very bad mood when finally arriving at Altamira...after 50 minutes of walking in the rain!!

Anyway, when being in a bad mood, I needed a drink right away, and something to eat as fast as possible. Well, suprisingly enough, that´s exactely what happened!! Within 5 minutes I was staring at my delicious Caiprihna (and the waiter even apologised that I might take a while...??), and 10 minutes later all the tapas arrived. Incredibly fast-service, despite that it was pretty crowded inside.

The tapas were huge, unexpected because normally you get ridiciously small portions, what makes tapas an expensive event. But here, only two plates of tapas will do. Ofcourse we ordered too much, expecting the first to happen, but it was tasty and our bad moods turned into good moods...leaving us very satisfied.

The only bad thing about Altamira is the inside temperature. When you see people having dinner in their t-shirts (during winter..) and their faces turn red, you´ll know it´s too warm.

Great tapas, perfect service, nice atmosphere and cosy interior.

Lots of mixed opinions about this place - but I was pleasantly surprised, and stuffed, when I came out. I've been to a number of other tapas places in Hamburg and this one beats them all for sure. The food was really tasty and came quickly, and the prices are reasonably. It's really busy but not cramped, so good atmosphere. I'd definitely come back.

A nice Tapas place in Altona. The food was good (but not breathtaking) and the service was decent for Germany. Particularly good chorizo, lamb cutlets, dates in bacon and chicken in mushroom sauce. 6/7 dishes should comfortably feed 3 people.

If i could give 1/2 stars, this would probably be 4 1/2. Recommended.

We were in Altona wondering where to eat, and some friends suggested Altamira, so we wandered along.

They were a little slow coming for our drinks order, but the place was packed. The tapas choice is extensive, with lots of salad and vegetarian options as well as seafood and meat. When the waiter was taking our order he was helpful in trying to explain the things that we were unsure about on the menu, and he also advised us to buy order two or three more tapas (which turned out to be good advice).

The food was really good, but the prawns in oil was a bit odd. If the place wasn't so far away from where I live then I'd definitely go back. Altamira would be great for parties, especially in the summer.

Went here with friends last night who love this place. I had been here years ago but hadn't really remembered it as being anything outstanding. Anyway, we went last night and were lucky to have reserved a week and a half in advance as we were a party of six. The place was as everyone writes packed. They have added an outdoor "tent" since the last time I was here allowing probably for another 40 seats. It's heated and went from being too warm to a bit cold. Not a big deal but they are milking this place for every dime possible. The food was also only OK. We regularly go to a place called Palms in Mannheim which also has tapas and it's much tastier and creative there. Everything at Altimra tasted OK but nothing stood out. Further some of the things were simply boring. Service is mediocre at best and at times was downright uninterested. Some of the people whom we went there with came a bit later and were simply stopped at the door and asked "where are you going" in an unfriendly tone like the place was really thta important. They were simply coming over to our table as they saw us from outside. Strange reaction in my opinion. Finally, I do have to add that the dessert was really good. We had both the coconut and melon ice cream. Both extremely good. That's about the only thing though that is memorable. We'll be going elsewhere in the future.
