Halcyon Books, Greenwich

There was once a time when there were two branches of Halcyon Books in Greenwich. Ah, those were the days. These days we have to make do with the one, but it will do.

They have a broad range, without focussing too much on any one subject – plenty of fiction, history, art, classics, etc etc. If they have a speciality, I suppose it’s philosophy.

But if you can leave here without having bought anything, the problem is with you, not the shop.

This is the best 2nd hand book shop in Greenwich. It really does have everything you could hope for. Stuff is easy to find and is very honestly priced. That means that you might not get the £2 bargains you get down the road, but you get a decent find at a good price.

It's crammed in here too. If you've just popped in on you're way into Greenwich, you'll be late to meet your friend. If you pop in on your way to catch your train, you'll miss it. I've spent over two hours in here before. I didn't think about how I would get 18 (yes 18!) books back home. That was a bit silly.

I've found books in here I've been looking for for years. The kind you lend to a friend and never get back. You can never justify buying them full price.

I don't come here much now. The fatc is, I've filled every book shelf in my house. I can't buy any more. And I've promised myself I won't come here again until I've read all of the books I haven't started yet. I don't think that promise will last very long.

Smells great in here too. Old books smells are amazing.
