I’ve previously been to Pierre Victoire three times and enjoyed it thoroughly. Last night some friends from out of town came and we made a reservation in advance.
We arrived at the restaurant exactly on time. The manager asked if I had a reservation. I told him the time, number of guests and my name. He went to go and find the list of reservations.
Meanwhile, a group of four arrived behind us and queued up.
When the manager returned, he immediately began talking to them and ignored me (waiting to be seated, first in line). He told them he had lost their reservation, but if they came back in 15 minutes they could have a table. They left.
He then told me he didn’t have my reservation, until I showed him the email confirmation. He then claimed that it was for 2 people, not for 4. I pointed out that I had confirmed this in the email. He asked if I could come back in 15 minutes. I could not.
We were seated and served by two different waiters (2 different people coming to ask if we wanted drinks, etc.). The food was good and arrived in a timely fashion, but after we’d finished we were not immediately offered dessert menus (had to wait 10 minutes). Whilst choosing desserts a third waiter came and asked us if we would move tables (the restaurant was largely empty at this point) as they had a large group coming in.
Needless to say we chose not to have dessert and got the bill.
As we were standing up to put on our coats, three waiters swept in to remove the table dressings. One smashed a glass which went all over my foot. He looked at the glass, looked at me, then ignored it without apology and carried on.
Bafflingly bad service. I’ve never seen anything like it. I’ve been a few times as the food is good, but I won’t be going back.
I went out with a friend for dinner to Pierre. It was a cosy, friendly, relaxed dinning experience. The pianist adds a wonderful touch.
Also the wine was great – maybe too good!
I have been to this restaurant six times this year, always happily taking friends and family who are visiting London and it never fails to disappoint. Fantastically priced food which is delicious, lovely ambience, and the paintings on the wall are gorgeous. The lunch and dinner deals are better than value for money!
Highly recommend!!
Had a good time again in this great little London bistro. Food and service was great. Only point of criticism is that the wine list could have more red French options. But thanks for a great night and the charming live music.
I have previously rated this restaurant highly until last night (Sat 23 Oct, after 8.00pm) when my partner and I went there hoping to have dessert and coffee as we had already eaten somewhere else. We were seated, then when we asked to change for the dessert menus instead the waiter had to go and ask the manager if it was ok, he came back and told us that it was'nt ok. So we just got up and left. We couldn't just have dessert/coffee or dessert wine? Why not? Probably because the manager was on a power trip and too greedy! Shame, we will never go back!
au revoir Pierre V...
PierreVictoireRestaurant Dear Andos, please accept our apologies once again. I also remember making up you on one of the websites and you meant to come to the restaurant as our guest for some desserts and coffee but I have not heard from you since.
Please come and see us and give us another chance to look after you. Regards, Batu. info@pierrevictoire.com

andos234 Hi Batu, I appreciate that you have offered to make amends which is respectable. Apart from my incident, I think Pierre Victoire is an exceptional restaurant and especially having been back for a fabulous lunch, once or twice since. I would love to take up your offer, thanks very much. Best, Andrew (i’ll be emailing about those vouchers)

I'd been here before although forgotten about it until last night, well, I won't do that again. If you're looking for great value simple French cusine in Soho, you can't go wrong. We all the excellent steak frites, mine was cooked perfectly and was an delicious cut of rib-eye. The wine was decent, the company fun, and they even had a great pianist banging out the standards, including a cake cover! Go there.
My partner & I chose this restaurant for the venue for our engagement celebration dinner based on a friend's reccommendation (from a visit years ago) and all the fantastic reviews on Qype. And I'm pleased to say, we were not disappointed!
The staff here are amazing. Nothing was too much trouble and they were attentive and helpful to the end.
We had a table of 16, taking up most of the basement and I have to say that after seeing the packed ground floor, I actually preferred the intimate basement as it was quieter and better for a large group.
The starter of halloumi and beetroot salad was scrumptious a very decent portion (as was the ginormous affogato at the end of our meal - the biggest I've ever seen!). I replaced my frites for mash with my main of steak bavette, was served in a red wine jus with onion and it was delicious (the meat wasn't as melt-in-the-mouth as my friend who opted for the more expensive Steak Frites; my choice next time...).
It was a shame that the set menu (2 courses for £9.90) finished at 7pm as that really made it a great option for those on a budget. Top marks for the house red wine - fantastique!
I will definitely be coming back. Thanks for a great night!
I came here for my birthday this year in January with a group of 10 friends, I was a bit late (one has to be fashionably late for their birthday) but the staff were cool about it. On a Saturday night the place is jam packed, the wine is flowing and there is a great buzz about the place.
I loved the french music the piano man was playing when i arrived, he played some beautiful tunes from the film Amelie which i love by Yann Tiersen. Oh la la!
The food was amazing, I had the tuna steak with chorizo, it's pretty reasonably priced too which was cool and we got a 25% discount as I had a view card (which you can download from view london website)
Voila!
really great little french style bistro we had sunday lunch here with friends the food was excellent and the price very reasonable would def go back def reccermend the moules where to die for
I have been there yesterday evening to share a dinner, and as I am French, I was waiting for the food’s quality served in a French Restaurant in London. I had naturally high expectations!
And the result did not disappoint me. It was even a great success!
I had oysters on ice with vinaigrette and lemon (usual way of serving) which was really fresh and nice, then a fish just cooked as I like: without heavy and tasty sauce which cut the fish taste. It was served with few potatoes, salad, and just a line of olive oil: definitely french!!!
And the ”+”: real Baguette on table and awesome red wine (famous Chateau Neuf du Pape 2005-06).
For the price, have a look below on Andrew’s review ;)
I really wish to come back there, and for French food lovers I strongly advice!
My meal at Pierre Victoire last night was surprisingly good. I’d been to the Oxford branch (many moons ago) and remember it being ok, but certainly nothing to write home about. Well… i’ve been raving about this place all of today, so they’ve obviously up their game in London! The falafel and hummus starter was tasty and fresh and the corn fed chicken main course really hit the spot. All washed down with a bottle of Chateau Neuf, this meal is agonizingly close to 5 stars. The only thing holding it back is the service. It was good, but i didn’t feel “very well looked after”. The bill came to about £100 for 3, so not cheap, but worth it if it’s a special occasion (or if you’re just feeling spontaneous!).
I will definitely be going back.
This is a fab cheap French restaurant in Soho. The food is top notch for the price; all the usual French fayre. The set dinners are especially good value. I think you have to get there before 7pm to take advantage. There’s a lovely atmosphere with dark lighting and candles. What I would say is try and get a table at the top.
One night we went and it was full, so they shunted us into a little table downstairs by the kitchen. It was really smelly right by all the grease of the kitchen – definitely not the place for a romantic French meal.
This little French restaurant came highly recommended from our friends. We have dinner here for the first time yesterday. It was a great experience. Although the place look absolutely ordinary; it has a certain character which is out of the ordinary. We went just before 7pm and there was a ‘just before 7pm’ set menu for £9.90 with quite a good variety extras menu for about £6-7 supplement. I had a seafood and potato spring roll to start and a pan fried sea bass for main course… both were amazing for the price we paid! There were four of us , we had 2 bottles of wine and the bill came up to about £150. Great deal given that we have desserts and coffee as well!!!
There is a piano next to our table and our friends said that usually there is a pianist playing jazzy tunes… so I will try to catch him if I came the next time I go there. I am sure it is going to add to the atmosphere!
I have been back to this lovely little French restaurant for my last two birthdays. Both times I have been with groups of six or more and everyone loves it. Last week we went early as we were going to the theatre. They have a very good value for money set menu if you order before 6.30 pm. It is only £8.90 for two courses with supplements for some of the more expensive dishes - with drinks it came to just under £20 per person and the food was lovely. The staff were good though a little quick at asking for more wine - one had just overfilled our glasses in the attempt to empty the bottle and then asked if we wanted another one. Not Yet, please! The wine list is good though and the prices are very reasonable.
In the evening a guy comes along to play the piano, which is a really nice touch. The restaurant is quite small and gets really busy because it is so popular. There is a nice buzz but I don't think it would be the best place to go on a first/romantic date. Otherwise I would recommend it to everyone.
