What a shame that so much has been spent on renovating this place as a gastropub, but with so little thought to paying for the right staff with the right experience. The food is good – in fact brilliant for Redhill – but the chef is let down again and again by poor front of house staff and a bizarre billing computer. I have eaten there several times, and the waitress has always got something badly wrong. Tonight the drinks were forgotten, and when I pointed out that the salad was so full of grit that I feared for my teeth, the Spanish head waitress explained huffily that what I had eaten was merely salt that chef had added to the salad. It was patronising and stupid. The next course – nicely cooked – arrived cold, as if to prove that whatever the chef did, the front of house were determined to ruin it. It’s not as if they were understaffed: in fact there were so many staff and so few customers that it baffled me that it took so long to get anyone’s attention.
The bill ALWAYS shows things that you did not order. The staff keep explaining that this is the only way to get the computer to calculate the bill, but I have better things to do at the end of a meal than add up “kid’s menu beef” and “spinach with peas” to check that it totals up to “something else that I ordered which did not include kids’ meals or spinach.”
It’s not cheap – £30-40 per head with wine (which is average to poor).
I can’t honestly recommend it at all. My mouth is still gritty an hour after leaving. And salt doesn’t actually do that…..

Really huge improvement, best outside space in redhill, food is good however we were asked by the waitress how do we like our chicken cooked for the roast chicken? a bit random also asked the same about the roast beef which was a waste of time considering we ended up getting the end of the meat that had been lying there for quite a few hours, was told by waitress it shouldnt have come out as that normally gets thrown away which is lovely! so didnt have any beef with my roast! and no horseradish either, but didnt need it as no beef anyway did get offered a free dessert instead. but for 12.95 was expensive cabbage and potatoes. other than that service was good wine very nice choices would go back again however would not have any roast dinners there

Impressive! I've been going here for years and can really appreciate the positive changes that the refit has made. Good atmosphere and the food was excellent.
I've tried the sea bass, salt and pepper squid, roast beef and crispy pork belly (not all at the same time) sitting opposite the immaculate open kitchen, I can highly recommend it.
The service was friendly and efficient despite it being a bit hectic.
The garden space and decking is a massive improvement!
But where has the old guy gone who used to in the corner and smile at the fire?

The Home Cottage is always my first choice for meeting a friend for a drink. It’s unpretentious and welcoming and the beer’s great too. Those qualities make it stand out in Redhill, where most of the pubs seem to be doing their best to attract the lager lout crowd.
The function room at the back is great value to hire for a meeting or party. It is a lovely proportioned room with a high ceiling and great ambiance.

Good pub this, especially if you have to stay in the 'hotel’ over the road. Well kept Youngs, good food, which doesn’t intrude on drinkers. Quiz on a Thursday is a homely affair, just 4 teams last night, a bit of fun, that’s all. I could happily retire into an alcove, read the Times and sup a pint of special or that wonderful chocolate stout, and stay there til the dawn comes up, but they won’t let me.

One of the best pubs in Redhill for a decent pint. Good mix of customers but none of the Redhill chavs. Good atmosphere and perfect for a pint after work. Food not bad with good specials board. Only negative is the toilets - grim!
