Wagner is probably the most famous of Fft’s apple wine taverns. It is almost always crowded but you can make a reservation. Reservations work best if it’s an earlier hour. The place just gets so crowded that later reservations sometimes just can’t be kept.

Anyway, super convivial atmosphere. Typical hearty Frankfurter fare in very large portions. Wiener Schnitzel is a good tip. The really adventurous can try the Schlachtplatte which includes blood sausage and liver sausage.

Seating is at long fest tables so you’ll be rubbing elbows with strangers. The wait staff can be a bit gruff and impatient…especially if you block the aisles while they’re carrying the big clay Bembells of apple wine. This is all part of the atmosphere so don’t be offended. Generally you’ll see anything and everything there…bankers, movie stars, and celebrities sitting right next to the regulars who live around the corner.

I suppose a lot of folks would say Wagner is a must-see on a Fft trip. Other apple wine taverns like Gemalten Haus (right next door) have similar food and apple wine without being quite so crowded.

The Adolf Wagner is really a must-see in Frankfurt. The place is quite touristy but visited by native Frankfurters as well (you'll recognize them by their incomprehensible language).

At Wagner you'll have huge bembels of apple wine, very good and traditional Hessian food (meat, sausages, sauerkraut and every other stereotype) for moderate prices. The service is sometimes a bit bearish but if you manage it to meet their mood, they'll be your best friends.

Ordering in English is no problem at all, I had the feeling that the Wagner provides more English than German Menus!

Better to avoid the famous "Alt-Sachsenhausen" completely, the apple wine bars around the "Schweitzerplatz" are much better. More authentic and much more cozy.
