Bar Gansa was a bit of a slow starter, but it grew on me. Not unlike moss. When you first walk in, it’s all rather unprepossessing. The decor is pretty humdrum and the bar service cannot be described as stellar, however charitable you might be feeling.

Fortunately, the food is stunning. The last time I was there, four of us ordered a couple of dishes each from the tapas menu and one of my friends got the gnocchi and salmon. The food took about forty minutes to arrive, by which point I was seriously considering gnawing off my own foot. However, when it did turn up, there were literally mountains of it. They do things to marinated artichokes that you would not believe. The standard chickpea and chorizo combo was given new life and my friend’s gnocchi was sublime(I am one of those people who feels duty bound to taste everyone’s food). All of that, a round of beers and a couple of bottles of quite nice wine came to just under £40 a head.

Basically, go there if you’re hungry and in no hurry. If you want a quick drink somewhere nice, I’d suggest you keep walking down Inverness Street.

Now I feel like I can only write half a review. I was so hideously hungover last time I was here that when they brought the food out I feel so unwell I had to go outside and couldn't eat anything.

So aside from the tiny bit of tortilla I did manage I can't review the food. But, the guys I was with seemed to enjoy it. Though I'm not sure watching me go green helped them enjoy their meal very much.

So why the review? And why such a low rating? I just can't believe how bad the service was. It wasn't busy, but it took us ages to get served. The waitress thought reading her paper was more important.

Then she cleared half the dishes away but left the other half. She took so long to finally get out bill and then take our money that we were late. There was just no hurrying this woman. Service in Camden is generally pretty bad, but this was shocking.

They have live flamenco here most nights, but I'm really not sure it's worth the effort. Maybe I'd be syaing that if they food was spectacular but to be honest, while it looked fine, it was just standard tapas according to my friends.

I'm now on the hunt for a fabulous tapas bar with great flamenco thrown in. Demanding? Maybe...
