Ice Cream = Gelato. Amongst all those years of living in Italy, the one thing I could just never give up is Italian ice cream. Forget Ben and Jerry’s, Haagen Daz etc, Italian Ice cream is in a complete league of it’s own.
This place is close by to Piazza Cavour (near the Tiber river), and always full of italians buying ice cream (a very popular thing to do in Rome). You are better off going for the nut, coffee, cream, vanilla, chocolate flavours which are not too sweet and blend extremely well - always accept the panne (cream) it’s free and all that more delicious.
You could tempt to go for the fruity selection, but be warned they are sweet - my favourites are the melons, peaches and lemons.. but that would really need water to go with and is a selection I would go for nearer to the beach on a very hot day!!
You must most definitely not leave the country without having proper ice cream!!

This gelateria produces quite convincing gelato, one of the best in Rome in my opinion. Gelato tastes very similar to the one of Fassi, i.e. no exotic flavours or claims of naturalness and all gusti are quite standard, but execution quality is high. At 14 euro/kg (spring 2008) the price is good for Rome and the place is not touristy at all, probably due to its location in residential Prati.
Most flavours seem to be good, but my favourites are Malaga, Zabaione, Yogurt and Caffe. Definitely recommended.

Heavenly ice cream. Lots of it. 20 m from the Piazza Cavour Morrissey sings of in his song “You have killed me”.
“Gelati, Gelati” means “Ice cream, Ice cream”, maybe it’s the name of the little shop, maybe it’s the ad.
I loved the pine nut & the pistacchio siciliano flavours especially. Icecream being NOT SWEET! But still delicious! Whipped cream goes for free.
Ice cream will never be the same again back in Germany. What are these Italians selling in Cologne anyway? I’ll never take it for “Italian” - nevermore!
Gelati, Gelati, you have killed me!
