The best Butter Chicken in London! I always order this dish when I go there - perfectly spiced and the chicken is roasted, just the way it should be. It must be eaten with butter naan. Tried a Methi Gosht, but it wasn't that good. 4-stars just for the Butter Chicken.
Atmosphere could be much better - they've crammed too many tables into the place, but they do make up for it by seating 2 people at a table for 4.
Price - 20 Pounds/person.
My fella and I are regulars here and always get a huge welcome when we turn up :) this place is run by an extremely friendly bunch of guys who've been with the business for donkey's years. They have a near magical knack of seating groups of people even when the restaurant looks entirely full, and make really great Indian food.
As a veggie, my favourite dishes here are the 'pumpkinettes' (on the menu it assures diners that 'Punjabis go crazy for these miniatures pumpkins'), the special kali daal and the aubergine dishes. The bread is also superb - much lighter and crispier than naan at your average curry house.
A great place where I'm sure I'll be coming back for many years!
The Punjab is a busy North Indian restaurant near Covent Garden. I called for lunch with a colleague. Despite being fairly quiet the initial service was a bit slow, but the staff seemed friendly and helpful.
I went with one of their speciality dishes: Acharri Gosht a “pickle-styled lamb curry, tangy & irresistible medium spiced dish” served with Naan bread which was very flavoursome and at £9.80 for the curry and £2.35 for the naan reasonable pricing for central London.
I’ll be back! Recommended.
Not good at all. From arrival we had to ask several times for menus and for our drinks order to be taken. We all ordered popadoms and the relishes that accompanied them were of the cheap, wet and low taste variety. Very disappointing. The main chicken curry I had was OK but nothing special. The three of us ordered plain, garlic and peshwari naans respectively. They all turned up in a single bowl and it was hard to tell which of the dry and unappealing segments was which. Little taste.
Had much better food and service at almost every other curry establishment.
Will not go again.
Authentic Indian food served by real Indians! This is by far my favourite indian restaurant in Central London. When I want punjabi food, this is my first choice. Lovely staff, always very friendly & helpful, and lovely food every time. Prices are also quite decent for the quality. I have been there already many times and so far, was never disappointed so I'll keep coming back.
Just an hour back, I was thrown out of this place - reason? well I asked for a few things that added upto only 12 pounds. The server directly told me that they dont accept any orders below 15-20 pounds. This is absolutely crazy and I will not recommend this place to anyone anymore.
The food is good but it does not mean you take the right to throw people out.
thesussexidler How strange. They were so very good when we visited........I'd still recommend this place very highly indeed though.

Mayur Shah Yeh i know it is strange - i just went there for lunch today and they refused it completely - moreover he did not even try to stop me when i was leaving, just like they dont care!

Absolutely amazing, authentic Punjabi food! Been there twice and both have been good experiences.
What a fine, upstanding bunch of people the staff and owners are. A friendly, busy joint serving fantastically fresh food. They were busy & booked up and still made space for us when other places didn't want to know. If my prawn madras had been any fresher it would have swum off........a big five stars to The Punjab!
By far and away my favourite 'Indian’ restaurant in central London; the best Punjabi food I’ve eaten which hasn’t been home-cooked. Just thinking of the menu makes my mouth water … it’s all good. By their condiments (especially the lime pickle) shall ye know them, and if you have a couple of papadums while you consider the menu you’ll see that everything here is fresh and just as it should be. I have a particular fondness for the acharri gosht myself. This would be a good place to bring someone who says they don’t like Indian food (which is a bit like saying that they don’t like 'European food’, there’s such diversity). If they remain unconvinced then they’re just contrary.
Well, this is one of the places which actually make real “Indian” food. Been there couple of times. Interiors are quiete modest. Great things to try are the kebabs in starters, and mango-lassi. For main course, try ANY chicken dish, they just make it great. Closest you can get to an Indian taste !!
