So what’s all the fuss about Best Baguette Award? I bought a fancy ‘tradi’ baguette, and I regret to say I was under-whelmed – chewy, unsavoury, nothing to write home about.

Difficult to choose between the Grenier à pain and the Coquelicot, as for me, these two places are just as good as each other. It is true that Le grenier has a finer style of patisserie than the Coquelicot, but for the bread, they are just as good as each other. However they have a few specialties, like the bacon “ficelle apero” which you will love, as it is delicious, or the little white chocolate breads. The butter croissants are also very good!!! Their mille-feuille is exceptional, as it is caramelised on the top and it gives it a very particular taste. There are many other things but it would take a long time to list them all. If you drop by the Rue des Abbesses, stop by the shop, however, do avoid Sundays, between 10 and 12:30 as there is quite a long queue, even in the winter.
