Glorious luxury.

Rather than staying in the tourist-trap party town of Bodrum, or any of the much busier resorts along the Bodrum peninsula, we opted for this small (I think fewer than 20 units) but luxurious resort in the tiny town of Torba.

It was fantastic: expensive (although less so in the off-season, when we were one of only 3 sets of guests!), but full-service. Breakfast was plentiful and top-notch. Walk out on the dock and they’d bring out lounging pillows and an umbrella for you. Want them to bring you a daquiri? Done. Turn-down service and a split-level room? Done. Exclusive-use beach? Pool? Hammocks? Weight room? Laptop rentals? Done. And you can catch a dolmus - 1.70 lira for the 10-minute trip, running each 20 minutes or so - into Bodrum for nightlife and much cheaper meals.

The Queen Ada resort is in Alistair Sawday’s Special Places to Stay.

Yes, thanks, Phil, it is right on the beach (it has a private stretch).
