Fantastic and interesting place to visit
The Latvijas Fotogr?fijas Muzejs / Museum of Latvian Photography is a national institution in the old town of Riga. It opened in 1993 and is a branch of the Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation. The collection of the museum has up to 10,000 exhibits and contains transparencies, negatives, photographic equipment, documents and books.
It is well-worth a visit! Its Director Vilnis A. is very friendly and helpful.
The museum helps to conserve the research for a national identity, to discover the past of Latvia.
There are photographs of the 19th century. There is also a permanent exhibition, an archive and a library.
Also new exhibitions are changing in the gallery every month (contemporary Latvian photography, work of the Latvian exile, and exhibits by prominent foreign photographers from all over the globe).
I just love the work of these photographers: Arno Antums - Jansons, Janaitis and others!
Have a look here for contemporary Latvian Art Photography: http://classic.culture.lv/photomuseum//kolekcija/masters/...
Urban Landscapes was a good exhibition here. Inta Ruka and Odile Debloos - Photo Project "Latvia-France".
REMEMBER THIS PLACE! Cost: Ls50-Ls60.
