Food was ok but meal was spoilt by slow service from the waitress whose ponderous pompous and ignorant approach spoilt the experience

My wife and I have just had two days at the Devonshire Hotel. We both agreed that we had a most wonderful time there. The Staff were polite and very helpful at all times. The room was large. The bed was big and very comfortable with lovely bedding and pillows. The shower was powerful with plenty of hot water. The food was incredible. A very good menu. A large selection to choose from. The food was cooked very well. It was all freshly prepared and cooked. The table was yours for the whole evening if you required it. There were no pressure from staff to move you. If I had to find a slight fault it would have to be the use of paper table covering and rather thin paper napkins. Apart from that a very comfortable and clean hotel with a homely feel. Good value for money. Would recommend the B&B and evening meal package for £280.

Blessed as we are, living in the heart of Somerset, and having a great selection of inns and pubs serving locally sourced food we tried our luck further afield by heading to the south of the county; yes, are "that" adventurous!

We ended up in the Devonshire Arms Hotel, having driven past it literally hundreds of times, boy, were we impressed.

First impressions; quite contemporary decor in an old building, but done well and we were impressed by the amount of room given to the diners. Other pubs would have crammed in at least 50% more tables.

It was good to sample someone else's local food (big blackboards at the back of the pub with info on their sources).

Being the carnivore that I am, and delighting in the taste of well prepared and cooked meat, I am ashamed to say I almost overlooked the lamb I had (and it was incredible), because the vegetables were absolutely amazing. Never tasted such before!!

And the cheeseboard features locally made cheeses made from unpasteurised milk.

And (there's more), they serve beer made in the village.

All in all, absolutely marvellous; taking my Dad there next month for his Birthday.

The Devonshire Arms is a Pub come Restaurant come Hotel that sits beautifully in the centre of Long Sutton, just off the village green.

The old inn has been recently spruced up and is perhaps a little too modern for my likely, but the olde world touches to the restaurant, bar and hotel are it's saving grace.

I went here for a big birthday lunch with the family and the food was excellent. I certainly couldn't fault it, even if the furniture, menu presentation and other aspects reminded me a little tooo much of All Bar One.

The hotel is perfect for a Somerset visit, being in the middle of many great attractions, from Glastonbury to Montacute House, Cheddar Gorge and much, much, more.

If you are looking for a weekend getaway then this is as good a spot as any, and although the rooms are on the pricier side, you can certainly tell the difference between the Devonshire and other pub hotels in the area.
