Bert's Homestore

Bert's is straddling a lot of conflicting ideas masterfully. Vintage style store aesthetic with modern household items. High end items sold at an affordable price. Small intimate stores with plenty of stock. Stock that changes over frequently but you can still return later to buy something that caught your eye. They sell all the basics for the kitchen, garden and home but most products have a special twist and they do special occassions beautifully in that store. You always leave with something that feels like a bargain but will really enhance your home. For gift, berts has something for everyone and my family and I generally use christmas day as Bert's stuff day as it's perfect at that time of year!

I love this store, lots of old fashioned style stuff with a homemade style touch. Be sure to pop in on Easter or Christmas they always have quirky little decorations and bits and pieces!

Sells much of the same stuff as Steamer Trading, only cheaper! Perfect for kitchenalia addicts. I should know, I have about 4 sillicon balloon whisks, 3 pastry brushes, a spring-loaded potato masher and a dedicated spaghetti measurer but I recently realised I don't own a wooden spoon. It's a disease.

Such a cute store - which strangely just has everything you want! mainly kitchen nic nacs (i tried on onion goggles in there lately)but they also have great mugs, stuff for cooking & wierd and wonderful things you never knew you really wanted!!! Staff are so helpful - its a great shop!

This is the Hove original of the Bert’s Homestore chain (there’s now one in Brighton too), located in the pleasantly pedestrianised shopping area of George Street. (George Street is small but reasonably quiet, even on a Saturday - it’s the complete opposite of Brighton city centre.)

They sell lots of stuff for kitchens and bathrooms, concentrating on accessesories such as knives, chopping boards, tea-strainers, tea-pots, mug tress, washing up bowls in funky designs, etc. rather on standard crockery and cutlery (although there are a few basic items).

It’s attractively laid out and lovely to browse, and excellent for things such as olive spoons, tea-bag squeezers, lemon rind peelers, which in my book are not essentials, but make those specific tasks so much easier. The staff are lovely too. It’s hard to leave without buying something…
