Review of Buza Bar from 16 March 2008 (updated on 14 July 2008)

This bar/café is in a class of its own. It’s hard to find, but definitely worth it.

If you walk along the inside of the south wall in Dubrovnik’s walled old town, you’ll see a small doorway with a sign saying “Cold drinks” and “The best view in Dubrovnik”. Follow those signs, and you’ll emerge through the city wall and into a café that clings to the outside, far about the rocks and waves below. You’ve found Buza.

It’s a strange place, with its simple tables, multiple levels, and thatched grass roof. The toilet isn’t much more than a grass hut. But you can enjoy a drink here and look out over the islands and the ocean. It really is one of the coolest spots in the city.

They had almost no food when I was here, just a few simple sandwiches. Go near sunset, for the drinks.

It’s also got paths that lead down to the base of the cliff where you can sunbathe or swim off the rocks.
