I'm basing this purely on a regular Breakfast meeting I attend at this venue.. Although the prices are competitive, I'm really not impressed with the quality of the food or indeed the service. That's not to say it's particularly bad, it's just average.. Mediocre.. In fact, if anything, it's a little Beige. It's inoffensive, and can be good value for money, it's just not particularly inspiring. Personally, I think you can do better for the money simply by walking a minute up the road to Pizza Express, Giraffe or Wagamama's..
You will not get a better value restaurant in Brighton.
Along with my fellow reviewer - I am amazed it is not much busier.
Staff are really well trained, attentive, and the service is excellent.
I first visited at a Friend's wedding and was amazed at the service and food quality (when one of 150 diners at a sitting).
I dine there at least twice a week now - both the astonishingly good value Lunch & Pre-Theatre menu (which has become a favourite for Lunch with my colleagues at work) - and a la carte. I have enjoyed every meal I have eaten there - which is saying something.
Every person I have recommended has enjoyed their meal also - this place really sets the standard for a modern restaurant with fresh, local produce and high quality seafood.
And, along with the Chocolate Nemesis - probably the best Creme Caramel you will ever taste. (I am not being paid for this revue - it is genuine)
Why isn't TABLE more popular? I've been there 4 times now (one being our office (Xmas 09) party when they coped admirably with 70 people - and not one complaint - only compliments!
Relying on quality ingredients, fresh... and as local as possible. Even their chips are handcut! The restaurant's highly professional and friendly team serve fabulous food and provide excellent service.
I rarely eat meat (don't worry - meat eaters are adequately catered for), so starter-wise I nearly always choose calimari, it's lightly battered...and never chewy... though on the salty side (for those of you who worry about your health). The mains - Fish, whether grilled whole or deep fried is always a winner, Gnocchi with Wild Mushrooms is fab... and far more filling than it looks.
Leaving the best to last.. is the AWESOME Chocolate Nemesis desert... very, very dark, very moist, extremely rich but beautifully light in texture. My tip: Unless you're a mega-chocoholic - share it! It's D-I-V-I-N-E :)
Menus change monthly, though some dishes seem to remain as standard. TABLE's cuisine/service is definitely superior to it's former incarnation - Aldo Zilli's, which I found to be a disappointment.
Yes, I've become very fond of this eaterie, and I'm probably shooting myself in the foot, because I'd love to keep it secret! However, I also want them to stay in business... so don't take my word for it - please go check them out!
