My heart leapt when I heard that the Irish theme pub the Hobgoblin was being taken over and revamped. At last a decent local not populated with pissed, letcherous gropers, but a cosy, music venue, with a warm atmosphere and lived-in, loved look. My heart sank when I heard it was being reincarnated at a Scottish theme pub, with kilt-wearing bar staff. WHY? BUT, after many weeks of snobbishly refusing to even give it a go, I did meet some mates on there, and was really pleasantly surprised. No, it’s not what I had hoped for, but it went part of the way. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming (even if the temperature wasn’t), and the Ska covers bad were pleasant enough, so yeah, I probably will go there again on my way home one night.
