Basic but functional airport - hardly could believe this was the “international” airport for Iceland - who before all the financial turmoil, seemed to be doing very very well.
Saw a sign that items in duty free were up to 50% cheaper than in the city, to my surprise, when I was about to leave Iceland, I found prices higher than some stores in the city center (even after duty was removed).
The general cleanliness and upkeep is good, Heathrow could learn very much from thm in this respect.
Only other gripe is, it is rather far from the capital … being in a different town altogether ….

I think for the size and location of the Island this airport serves the country really well.
I must say, when we arrived the weather was horrific. We couldn’t see anything outside the plane window, just white! It was stormy, snowy and windy. The airport staff were excellent though…really helping us adapt and get us safely to our buses/hotels.
The airport is beautifually designed with a real Nordic feel. There is some lovelt artwork and sculptures around which I dont think you get in many other airports. Overall it felt like a much nicer place to be than your average airport.

Beautiful, modern airport filled with sculptures and artworks.
It is rare that i find myself in an airport terminal which i enjoy spending time in, but Keflavik is definately an exception! Check in is smooth in my expereince, with a number of easy to use, self service machines if you’re running late for a flight.
Facilitites are plentiful, with bars, cafes and a variety of small stores geared towards tourists and natives alike. It’s not cheap, but the duty free is worth a visit, along with the new panorama bar (with a view out over the icelandic landscape and air strip).
There is also a great kids area, next to the cafes and seats.
Toilets and lounges are clean, quiet and attractive. Staff and customs friendly, and the facilitites very adequate for a small airport.

really nice clean airport. if you are planning on drinking alcohol, ever, then buy it from the duty free here because outside the airport it costs triple the price.
