Compliment Bell (20-03-2008) •••••
As a huge fan of the cult classic film with Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Gray I arranged a girls night out to this musical with high hopes.
Unfortunately, the musical was very disappointing. Clichéd lines that were carried out without any conviction, songs that were not executed well and a poor production proved once gain that musicals need original screenplays or novels as a base and that films were created for the cinema.
I’m not even sure if going in without any expectations that it will be anything like the film would help, as the story itself on the stage is flawed.
It did turn into a great evening as the lines and execution had us in hysterics and lent itself to our melodramatic side, and a few glasses of wine at the interval made it seem all the funnier.
So if you do feel like a good laugh, it may be worth going to see but you need to be really determined!
