Basic accommodation in a fantastic location right on the Bund in Shanghai. Jump on the MagLev train at PuDong airport, then take the underground and hop off at Central Henan Road, and you can walk here in about 10 minutes - just head for the river.

The Captain’s Hostel is themed around all things nautical, so you can stay in a ‘sailor bunk’ for around 60 quai a night, and get attended to by staff in hilarious naval uniforms. If you don’t want to slum it in the dorms they also have some more expensive double rooms on the higher floors.

The best thing about this place is undoubtedly ‘Noah’s bar’, having what has been described as ‘the best view on the bund’. I’ll stick some photos up, but it is fantastic at night, and reminds me of blade runner. The drinks aren’t that cheap, but what a place to take them in.
