Star Ferry is very cheap, and quick and has cult value but in travelling from hong Kong Island to Kowloon, the fumes coming from the boat and indeed the busy industrial harbour made me feel very uncomfortable!¬

This is one of the best ways to see Hong Kong and it is a great “day one” activity” for first timers in HK. As well as the Star Ferries that just take you from one side to the other (best 20p you’ll ever spend!), there’s also a circular harbour tour route. It runs every hour and for most of the day costs HKD 40 (a little under GBP 3 at the moment).

Ferry’s are very frequent and staff always friendly and it’s never difficult to find help from locals that speak English.
