A very impressive sight from a distance and more impressive close up. I think the fact that you have to take a ferry adds to the romance and mystique and allows you to feel something of what immigrants must have felt when arriving at Ellis Island.

I last visited here back in 2003 and was unable to get the boat to Staten Island but was still in awe at the statue of liberty from afar. Not much else to view nearby though-so make sure you have your day planned well.
God Bless America, Lady Liberty stands proud and always will like those of New Yorkers whatever comes our way, september and any month any day and time proud and strong.
Personal recomendations to view the awesome Statue of Liberty is by taking the helipad from south seaport, aerial views are magnificent.
We would have loved to enter the statue here but unfortunately our schedule did not allow the time although we did get quite close on a boat trip. It is a truly impressive monument with a feel for its history related to its role in the flow of immigrants into America as a gateway from most of Europe by ship, it being the first recognizable edifice representing America that the immigrants saw.
I can't add anything more to this seeing as there've been 82 reviews already. I can only say that the day I went, it was cloudy and drizzling, but when I walked up to the big flag pole and looked at the Statue of Liberty, the sun peeped out from behind the clouds right over where the torch was, and it was breathtaking. It could have been cleaner and more polished, yes, but there's a great sense of history that no amount of wear and tear can hide.
Great place. Rather than pay for the eplayers you should go to the big flag and get a free tour!
I conduct New York tours. Many people are disappointed that they cannot go up to the crown or even into the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty. You must secure your "Crown" or "Monument" pass well in advance. If you wait until you get to New York, it will be too late. The passes are free. They are strictly for crowd control. You can order them on the internet at the same time you order your tickets (for the ferry). Also, make sure you order timed admission tickets. They will save you a lot of time in line. You must order your timed admission tickets at least 24-hours in advance.
It only great to walk there!
Nervertheless one minus star for the senseless second security check.
Security first, of course! But between first (at the entrance at Battery Island) check and entering the boot/fairy (second check) there is no chance to get something up. A body scan...ok. But again put off your shoes...
Nevertheless the old french girl ist famous!
As an European girl I couldn't got to New York without going to see the statue of Liberty and I strongly recommend you to do the same if you visit New York.
On a very sunny day I would advise you to get there early to avoid the massive queue a Battery Park to get onto the ferry to the Liberty Island and also to pack some suncream along with your camera!! it is really hot out there!
The view from the ferry is amazing and totally worth the wait.

I suggest you to walk from Times square to the statue of Liberty, you will see beautiful place and enjoy the immensity of this woman!
You can't visit New York City without visiting the Statue of Liberty, you just can't.
I'd strongly advise getting up very early to beat the queues as it gets very busy very quickly.
From Battery Park it's a short ferry ride over to Liberty Island. Here you can wander around the base of the statue and have a good old gawp. Inside the main building there is an exhibition about the history and making of the statue along with a shop selling the expected touristy paraphernalia.
It's definitely worth a visit, but wrap up warm if you're not going at the height of Summer, it gets quite windy.
Seeing the Statue of Liberty for the first time on a ferry is a truly breathtaking sight.
Imagining the number of people who saw that view coming to this country, it's stunning.
Definitely recommend loading up on the sunscreen, though. My paler friends and myself did not fare too well.
The Statue of Liberty lives up to the hype. It is a pleasant journey by ferry and you get great views of the lower Manhattan skyline. An unexpected pleasure were the gardens around the base which are wonderful for lying in the sun and enjoying a hotdog. There is a small exhibition but a big disappointment was not being able to go inside the statue owing to terror concerns.
This is one of the things you must see if you plan to visit nyc!!!The best things about this include the view from the pedestal, the museum and fort wood which is a star shaped pedestal base. This in fantastic-it stands for freedom not just to Americans but i think that this is what every one sees when they look at it.This was created by a person called Frederic auguste Bartholdi in the late 1860s .It was uncovered by the president Grover Cleveland on october 28 1886.This attraction is quite cheap to visit and you can visit daily by ferry.
The Statute of Liberty is a symbol that not only represents freedom for the US but also for the western world. It is a must to visit when in NY but make sure you get your pass before you go or else you won’t see Lady Liberty except from down below! The tickets to go up Lady Liberty are free, sadly the ferry ride over isn’t though! lol It is something that you must do and the views are wonderful.
We took the ferry over to Liberty Island - make sure you get a good spot on the journey as you can get some amazing pictures of both Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. One thing that struck me was how small the statue was in real life - nothing like as big as it looks in films or TV. It is such an iconic landmark that the visit is well worth it. The boat does not take long and they are very good at getting the crowds on and off as quickly as possible. You can get up close to the statue on the island and there is the obligatory gift shop. The food and drink on the island is quite expensive but as there isn’t that much to do you shouldn’t expect to stay too long.
Get some amazing pictures of Manhattan from the island too - especially on a clear day.
Definitely worth a visit. The Statue of Liberty is made of copper and is on a steel framework. To get inside the Statue there are long queues. You get to the statue by boat and I really enjoyed the boat ride to the Liberty Island. The museum inside is very informative and lets you learn a lot about the history of the statue. You can see the original torch inside the statue that was replaced in 1986.
Really good sight to see. Definitely one thing you must do while in New York. Was quite busy when I went, and this was earlier on in the day. You can see the statue pretty up close when you get the boat over to the island, so it’s worth getting a good spot on the journey over. There’s a lot to do over there, but I’m not too sure if you can get into the Statue of Liberty anymore! Security wasn’t too bad when I went through, they seemed to get everyone through as quickly as possible. Drinks are pretty expensive, but not too sure about the food as we didn’t eat over there.
One of the must see’s whilst in New York. Be prepared to queue. You get some good views of Manhattan from the boat. When you get to the island, you realise just how small she is - she is not as big as she looks like on TV or in the press. But I suppose you have to say you have seen it.
I have visited New York twice, and gone to see the Statue of Liberty on both occasions.
It is certainly a 'must do’, and I would recommend it to everyone.
I will definitely be going again, next time I visit New York.
It is just very disappointing that visitors are no longer able to climb the stairs right to the top of the crown (Which I did do in November 2000).
