The Castle and the Gardens at Alnwick are very close together, and I may add are all owned by the same organisation, I accept that you cannot do justice to either one, on one daily visit but it does irk me somewhat to be charged two seperate admission fees for the same but different places (If you get my drift).
However this is what happens and those with young ones who naturally wish to see both often have to make a choice. I feel that some sort of concession should be made to link these two venues so as to enable the less fortunate to enjoy both.
(There got that off my chest)!!!!!!!!
Having said that, both venues are well worth visiting (if you can afford it)!!!! I have just spoke about the Castle…...but the gardens are stunning…...the new water features dotted around the grounds are child magnets…...and the main feature ‘The Water Cascade’ is just awesome…....thank god for digital cameras….(now we don’t have to keep buying film). You will need a pocketfull of money for these visits, believe me, but maybe, just maybe, you will leave with happy thoughts, and hundreds of pictures….......then you can cry about it later!!!!!!
The Alnwick Garden has been created with children in mind, who will find fun, exciting and interesting experiences throughout The Garden. Lots of the water can be played in, and it’s easy to get wet so make sure you have a change of clothes. Younger visitors can run through the Grand Cascade’s jets, drive the miniature tractors and collect water in their buckets or splash in the rills. They can also visit the Poison Garden to hear gruesome stories about nasty plants, play hide and seek in the secret places in the Ornamental Garden or run along The Treehouse’s rope bridges to see how much they wobble. The Treehouse is a wonderful place for families to eat together, with great menu choices for children, and there are also lovely spots to enjoy a picnic. Throughout the year there are programmes of events and workshops for younger visitors, The Garden is an all-weather attraction and there are steps and slopes, so go prepared for the season wearing sensible footwear etc:The Alnwick Garden is for everyone and they do strive to be accessible to all. This includes The Treehouse, which is accessed by ramp, and the extraordinary aerial walkways which are accessible to everyone, including wheelchair users. Wheelchairs are available for hire, just call before you visit and they will reserve one for you. It has good and easy access parking facilities, and there is a drop-off/collection point close to The Garden for people who have mobility difficulty. Assistance dogs are welcome in The Garden.
Each ticket includes access to the Walled Garden, The Pavilion, The Treehouse and the Woodland Walk. Prices including a Gift Aid donation
