4 reviews of Flat Cap Coffee Company in English
Agree agree agree! As an antipodean hailing from shores where cafes stand or fall on the quality of their coffee, Flat Cap is a revelation in the Westminster area. My drink of choice, the Flat White, is always made with care, the milk frothed perfectly and to the right temperature and with a minimum double shot of espresso, you can actually taste the coffee - unlike most of the chain outlets who overheat milk, and serve coffee in giant cups.
Word of note - do not be fooled by imitation Flat Whites which appear to be popping up in the multinational chains (Costa, Coffee Republic etc). I thought I would give them the benefit of the doubt so tried one at Costa, Clapham Junction and Coffee Republic in Rochester Row, only to be disappointed. Same old overheated milk, same old no flavour, and giant cup. To give them some credit, they managed to make a nice heart shape with the milk...
Anyway - back to Flat Cap - tell your friends!
Without a doubt Flat Cap serve the best coffee of any coffee cart or boutique coffee outlet in town -the prices, around £1.80 - £2.20, are very good value when compared to the likes of Flat White or Kaffeine but it is perhaps their choice of blends(from Square Mile) which stands them apart - their coffees lean towards a more creamy and fuller mouthfeel as opposed to more roasted blends used elsewhere. All in all I cannot fault this place. And due to their slightly out-of-the-way location they usually aren't as busy as similar ventures in the West End and, therefore, can take their time over each cup.
On my way to an interview this morning, I had the pleasure of enjoying a made with love and oodles of skill coffee at Flat Cap Coffee Company. At Flat Cap, you'll get delicious coffee and impeccable service and friendly banter that'll leave you grinning.
If you're serious about your coffee, you've got to give them a try! These guys really know their coffee. The beans are Square Mile and are bought in reusable buckets instead of the bags, I was pleased to hear. My cappuccino was smooth and flavoursome and although I would have preferred it stronger, I enjoyed it thoroughly.
I hope I get the job I interviewed for so I can be a regular customer at Flat Cap!
After reading about all of the wonderful coffee places springing up in the City in the last few months, jealousy began to take hold of the workers in the St James's Park/Victoria area. Around here it's all been the main chains, and lunchtime sandwich bars. Quality's therefore ranged from acceptably-above-mediocre to DIRE.
With the arrival of Fabio & Charlie and The Flat Cap Coffee Company however all this has changed, and proper coffee can be found in the streets of Westminster!
Fabio is an expert barista with incredible knowledge and attention to detail, and insists on using high-quality ingredients (incl. Square Mile Coffee) to produce a cup which is something I genuinely look forward to in the morning (as opposed to the routine "heart starter" that a coffee once was).
The prices are on par with other places around the area - somewhere in the vicinity of £1.80 to £2.20 depending on what you're having.
They also sell a very tasty range of pastries & whatnot brought in from Villandry, although you've usually got to get in pretty quick in the morning!
