I have to admit, I haven’t been her in quite some time. It’s pretty much a student hang out - drawn by the cheap drinks specials and faux Lord of the Rings slant. It’s a pioneer in the observatory area of Cape Town and what it lacks in class it nearly makes up in character. Not glad to hear about the music change - it’s quite a dark and dingy place, pop would just not sit well here. The main memory I have of this place was sitting on a shredded couch and feeling something cold and wet soak through my clothes. Delightful.
Definitely not the trendiest place in the world but if you’re a student and money is an issue, you’re bound to have an okay time here - just don’t sit on the couches.

Gandalf’s tries to loosely recreate a Lord of the Rings tavern, but actually it is just a cheap dirty hole. I love it for what it is and its lack of pretensions. Plenty of undergraduates flock here for cheap booze so expect lots of drunken patrons. It used to be more metal and hard rock focused but it has slowly become a venue for hiphop and pop which, for this reviewer at least, is not a positive development. An Obz institution, but I lost interest a while back.

Gandolfs is a nightclub , which is based on the theme of Lord Of The Rings!
It is a great place to relax ,there is loud music and lots of students but if you want to experience the true nature of diversity in Cape Town then this is the place for you.
As it is theme based you can enjoy looking around you. This can be seen by the paintings on the walls, the different dance arenas and the setup of the bars.
