Didn’t know about this place until we arrived in San Francisco. We had a car so it was easy to get to for us. My advice is don’t leave the city without visiting it. The view is magnificent and it’s so peaceful.

Twin Peaks has San Francisco’s best, sweeping 360 degree views.
Why visit Twin Peaks? The view, the view, the view. Being almost at the geographical center of San Francisco there is no finer place to see the city than atop Twin Peaks. With it’s panoramic views, Twin Peaks should be a must-stop on every tourist’s list of places to go.

If you only spend one day in San Francisco you simply must come see the view from Twin Peaks. The only slight problem is that it’s a bit of a pain to get to on the buses - they do come up here, but pretty infrequently.
Just get a cab and take the $10 hit. It’ll be worth it.
Basically from Twin Peaks you can see the Pacific, the Golden Gate bridge, the Marin headland, Sausalito, Alcatraz (and the various other islands), the Bay bridge, all of San Francisco and in fact the entire Bay Area. The view is best at sunset/sunrise, but if you have the time it’s good to experience it in all lighting conditions.
The viewing area is where I spent most of my visits, which is great for viewing San Francisco and the bay, but you can get a view of silicon valley (to the south) if you climb the short distance to one of the peaks.
