Classical American Diner with all the “Americana” we expect there. Staff was usually friendly as in most places I have been to in the US. The food was OK, the burgers good, no fancy stuff, but the food you would expect in a Diner. For my view the food (especially the fries) were always a bit too greasy. And the tables could have been cleaner too. The table, the ketchup and mustard bottles, as well as the menus we were given, were way too sticky”.

Aside from Mel’s Diner, this may be the most tourist-centric restaurant in all of San Francisco. They definitely cater to a specific crowd.
As a local, I only eat here when I’m downtown and in the mood for comfort food. They do have the sandwiches and milk shakes down to a science here.
And the service is always quite friendly. They are welcoming when you walk through the door, and appreciative when you leave.

The coveted 5-star rating.
There are a few Lori’s - my favourite is on Mason Street. From the outside there is nothing to distinguish it, apart from a small doorway and a long stairway (beware, you know if the diner is busy because you may find a queue of people trailing down the stairs - the good side is that the queues tend to move pretty quickly).
Inside the diner is a real slice of Americana - lots of neon signs, nostalgic music, etc.
The service is quick and friendly (I’ve been called “Hon” on more than one occasion). The food is really what people come for - in particular the big, american-style breakfasts.
Easting with my friends, I tend to go for steak and eggs (been hooked on that ever since I discovered, as a small child, that astronauts eat steak and eggs for breakfast), whereas my Swedish friend has a skyscraper of pancakes and biscuits and gravy (they’re not biscuits, and that isn’t gravy!!! At least in the UK).
The food comes very quickly and is plentiful and of good quality.
Lori’s also does extremely good burgers :-)
All in all, I generally leave with a full belly and a smile on my face.

For all of you nostalgic diners out there, here is a time machine to take you back to the good old days! Back to the neon lights, flashy architecture, and rock ‘n’ roll of the fabulous 50’s!
Designed to pay homage to the most American of icons: the Hamburger, French Fries, Coca-Cola, Malts and Ice Cream Sodas.
