It’s quite astonishing to think that this buzzing jazz venue has been open a mere couple of months. On my Friday visit, the joint was jumping, every available space taken-up with happy jazz-ters, savouring their pre-gig dinner.

The aromas that greet you are alluring, sure to tempt you into sampling the prepared-to-order Italian menu, created and overseen by Sicilian chef/co-owner Paolo. His sunshine-inspired tastes shine through. The atmosphere is laid-back and admittedly, it’s not the place to come if you’re starving and in need of a fast feed.

Co-owner and jazz appassionato, Keith will welcome you warmly and bring you wine and olives. If red is your grape of choice, don’t miss-out on the well-priced Barolo - delizioso! Grilled calamari was Friday’s hot favourite, conveniently available as a starter, or in a main course portion. The giant prawns looked and smelt appetising too, as did the range of pasta dishes and risotto. Paolo’s delightful son will bring you your food - eventually - his service and manner are charming and make you forget the lengthy wait.

When the main event is about to start, you’ll be led downstairs into the atmospherically-lit, burgundy-coloured jazz area with its impressive bar and appealing alcove seating. On my visit, I was lucky enough to enjoy the fantastically mellow, warm vocals and repartee of creative director, Liane Carroll. The audience adored her, totally enraptured by her stunning three sets; enhanced by her natural comedic talents and insight into her life and musical journeys. I’d definitely return, sooner rather than later, to experience the renowned talents of regular, Johnny ‘six fingers’ Miller.

Brilliant combination of Italian food upstairs and the Jazz Club in the basement. The Jazz Club is cosy, has great acoustics and atmosphere. Alcoves are interesting and cool toilets! Will be back again.
