Barry does quite well for decently-sized supermarkets. There’s a large Morrison’s, a Tesco and this Waitrose, which used to be a Safeway. (Waitrose moved in when Morrison’s had to sell their surplus stores, and a nice addition it is too.)
It has wide aisles, a large car-park, and the usual range of slightly-more-upmarket groceries (fruit and veg in particular) that characterises the store. During the day, it can be quite quiet, which makes for a less stressful shopping experience, and indeed it is seldom as frenetic as Tesco or Morrison. I guess this may mean their taking are lower, but it’s better for me!
Services include meat, fish, delicatessen and cheese counters, a cash-point, customer toilets and a petrol filling station (handy to know about if you are driving east out of Barry, towards Dinas Powis and Cardiff).
Staff seem to be helpful and polite, and there are packing, carry-to-car and accompanied shopping services available on request.
