Its not Lingfiled and its certainly not Goodwood. If Goodwood is the champagne bar of racing tracks then Brighton Racecourse is more of a transport cafe. I’m not putting it down but if you check the quality of the horses coming here for the flat season then you’ll get the idea. Throw away your form book as you idle up the hill to the entrance. To say the track is quirky would be an understatement. Theres the downhill slant towards the finish line for a start and then theres that little matter of the horses having to race across Wilson Avenue. Now they do put down grass before the horses get to that part but still sometimes they still jink a little or that might be from fear from the angry looks thrown at them by the motorists stuck in a traffic jam backing all the way down to the Marina.
Its a beer and pie place, more Sun/Daily Star than the Racing Post but if you fancy a flutter, hate the idea of poncy Ascot and love your chips then this is the place for you. If you get bored with the weird results-unless you back any Gary Moore horses-a local nationally known trainer-who always runs a fair race. Then you can always lounge in the stands and breathe in the glorious sea views.
This Racecourse is much more than just horse racing. It has a great restaurant called Silks. It has an La a carte menu to help you enjoy the great views from the windows. There is the long bar where a jug of Pimms can be enjoyed. There are other food outlets as well.
There is 18 suites to hire. A day delegate catering packages with bespoke menus. Free parking for 1,500 cars! For events & venue hire manager call 01273 603580.
