Ah, I used to go here as a child (hated the pungent aroma of coffee and garlic, I can still smell it now) then back as a grown up (porcelli mushrooms and Panettone anyone? I must go back sometime, looks like it might have changed just a bit since i was there in 1988!!.

I have been to this shop twice when I saw a show with the 2 hairy bikers mentioning it. Although they have decent prices on pasta and other things, I find the wine very expensive. The reason that I am writing this however is of a different nature. The first time I went in the middle of February I bought 4 bottle of olive oil as they were on special offer. Normally I look at the expiring date but for some reasons I forgot even when I tasted the oil at home and had a strange after taste. Anyway few days ago by accident I looked at the last bottle remaining and the expiring date read October 2012. I sent them an email more than 2 weeks ago via their website and I never got a reply. I rang them up few minutes ago and the person that answered was extremely rude and said that it was impossible that the oil was expired then he told me that it was my fault that I didn't check and he didn't have time to waste. I don’t think I will rush back any time soon to shop there again!
BUt do you know what - in all that time not ONCE has any of us been welcomed or made to feel like a vlaued customer.
Hundreds and probably thousands of pounds of our money has been rung through that till and I dont think any of them know us from adam!
In particular the lady cutting the meats has been breath takingly rude....on quite a few occasions. Not once has she ever aknowledged us. Once she admonished my husband for trying three peices of the meats they leave out LITERALLY as we were about to buy meats for our daughters baptism! We spent over £80 on meats adn she told him off for having three tiny specs of meat - left out to try.
However they do great value sliced meats and parmasan cheese....otherwise I wouldnt go back.

As Tutti says in their review:”Many locals use it as a convenience store but others travel from a distance to pick-up some truly tasty foods which are notably different from those available in the big brand supermarkets. Well worth a visit but do be prepared to spend somewhat more than you would elsewhere.“
The Missus has banned me from going there unaccompanied there because I keep finding so much interesting stuff.
Recently, they moved around the corner into very large premises and offer the additional benefit of parking, which used to be an issue. The prices might just cause your average Italy-resident Italian to squeal loudly in operatic dismay, but that said, it is full of Italian customers. Almost the equivalent of having the Harrods Food Hall or Berlin's KdW all cosily tucked away just round the corner on an industrial estate!
If you live nearby then go there. You will be pleasantly surprised and not disappointed.

Why bother with Harrod’s Food Hall or the KaDeWe in Berlin when you have this down the road, is what I say! Yiou realise that they have expanded into warehouse size, with dedicated parking?
Canny Sicilians
Like a full time continental market, I could spend hundreds of pounds in here (if I had it!) Packed with lovely food, wine, beer, spirits, cheeses, biscuits, sausage, fruit and veg. Mmm. A must visit. Take £20 for starters.

Those of us old enough will remember a splendid chain called the “Home and Colonial”. That’s what this place smells like. I think that’s also why my wife has banned me from attending the premises unsupervised, as I do tend to get a little exuberant in my purchases.

Edited: 2.5.2012 Now additional and very much expanded premises round the corner, with parking facilities!
This place is great! Hidden away in a residential section you’d never discover by chance, this shop is much bigger inside than you’d expect.
There’s fresh produce, lots of wine, beer, alcohol, deli meats, breads, preserves, cleaning goods, grocery items, utensils: you can probably get everything you need here.
It’s owned by an Italian family. They’ll give you a box if your order’s heavy. There’s an espresso machine at the cash. It just feels hidden and local and old-world and wonderful here.

Hidden in the back-streets, this is a foodies treat with a great selection of good quality Italian anti-pasti. Also good variety of food from around the world.
It doesn’t look much from the outside and it’s not exactly glamorous inside, butiIt’s well worth a visit - you won’t be disappointed.

A highly popular fresh produce store in Maidenhead for those who are fortunate to be aware of it’s presence! The Italian & Continental Store is a family-run business which has been around for many years offering traditional Italian and continental foods such as pastas, sauces, olives, meats and breads and wines from all around the world. Many locals use it as a convenience store but others travel from a distance to pick-up some truly tasty foods which are notably different from those available in the big brand supermarkets. Well worth a visit but do be prepared to spend somewhat more than you would elsewhere.

The Missus has banned me from accompanying her there because I keep finding so much interesting stuff. Someone one told me that you have to watch your change, but in fairness, that could have been a 'one-off’, because the old boy was concentrating too much on watching Italian telly, as is his wont.
