Metro Golf

Metro Golf is where I go to have golf lessons, practise at the driving range and play their 9 hole golf course. It's pretty handy for people living north of the river, and not expensive, given that golf can potentially be a dreadful drain on the wallet.

My instructor is an Australian pro, patient to a tee (pardon the pun) and possesses a wonderful teaching style mixing hi-tech with low-tech, that suits me just fine. You see, golf is one of those sports where there are so many hundreds of intricate little techniques to learn that just when you think you've mastered one, you realise you've only just mastered the root of a much larger tree, and if that happens too often, it would be tempting to do an Elin Woods and take an iron to some nearby static objects. So to have a patient instructor saves on potential damage, both emotional and material. I kid you not on the importance of this.

The 9 hole course was a challenge when I first started playing, but now there's only one hole that gives me trouble and I find it a little too easy on a good day, but that's probably just because I've been pushing myself hard on championship level courses. After that sort of exertion, anything less complex will seem like a walk in the park.

And as the 19th hole, there's a nice little Italian restaurant to recharge you with pastas, pizzas, gelati and Italian birra on tap.
