1 review of The Fairtrade Gallery in English
Chances are that you won't have heard of this place, it is located in a back street, wedged next to a mechanics. But that doesn't mean that it isn't important - hell, they even have their own festival.
It is an art gallery and performance space. And it is tiny; really, really tiny. Teeny-weeny tiny. If you were to swing a cat you would get cat brains all over the walls.
The amount of energy crammed into this place gives it a buzz even when there is not much going on. When I visited there was an exhibition of photos by Steve Gullick and it was pure rock’n’roll, which was very in keeping with an art gallery that also host its own music festival.
The April Alternative is a mini-fest in April - obviously. Don't be thinking BIG festival, be thinking BOUTIQUE and I mean really, really boutique. The galleries max capacity is 55 people and you'll be sharing the space with the art on the walls. V boutique. Keep watching the website coz tickets won't last long once they are out.
You really need to take the time to visit this place when you are in Kemptown. In fact, use it as an excuse to come to Kemptown.
Oh and they also do picture framing. It isn't the glamorous, cool bit of the Fairtrade gallery but life isn't all ha-ha-hee-hee is it?
