Review of Seacroft Working Mens Club from 25 February 2013
I am and have been for a number of years a member of the seacroft workingmens club, until recently I was satisfied with the way things were that is until recently around 7 months ago.
I was attacked by another member because i did not agree about a subject he was talking about he took offence and started to pass unwarranted remarks trying to goad me to which i did not respond except to say it was a disscussion and i gave my oppinion.
All of a sudden he scoweled and turned red in the face charged at me fist clenched bashing his chest into mine and then hitting my chin with his forehead.
To protect myself from further attack I pushed him away from me, he then made another lunge i reached out  to hold him away from me i managed to hold his face at arms length, another member charged between us breaking his grip and knocking my hand from him, this resulted in him having a few scratches to his face caused by my nails.
Things were cooled i went to the toilet came back had my back turned to my assailant picked up my drink a lucozade in the plastic bottle took a sip went to put it down when suddenly i felt a hard punch from behind to the side of my face, this was stopped by other members yet again they instantly grabbed him and stood between my assailant and me i did not retaliate.
the members managed to cool my assailant and made him promise not to cause anymore trouble, he promised he would not they let him go as they did within a fraction of a second he picked up a snooker cue and struck me with the thick end of the cue i saw it coming and turned my head sideways but it struck the side of my face jaw and temple.
Again he was held and members stood between, I felt stunned and dizzy again i did not retaliate i was tended to by members and went home. i recived a letter to tell me i was not to come into the club until a hearing had been held and i was believe it or not, accused of fighting in the letter that was sent.
I wrote a letter to the club explaining that i had not been fighting and exactly what had taken place and that i had witnessess, this was ignored and i stayed away until the hearing.
At the hearing i gave my side and produced witnessess to the fact that the attack was an unprovoked one and that i was attacked four times.
the assailant admitted the attack and produced no witnessess.
A few weeks later i was sent a letter saying that i had been banned for fighting and banned for 6 months,
My assailant was banned for 12 months.
I appealed to the committee but was told that they would not change their views and refused to give any reason why, I sent in a few letters they said they would no longer reply and as far as they were concerned the matter was closed.
I have been in touch with the CIU to get their support and my name cleared and to act as arbitrators but this has been a task in itself and i feel that I am being fobbed off saying the club was being irresponsive and that they were to close the case I have appealed against this decision and told them that they are failing in their duty to me as a CIU member i am entitled to their assistance, I am awaiting their reply.
I have not been in the club for around 9 months out of principle and will not do so, how can i this would be
accepting defeat and allowing others to be treat as i have by this committee's dictatorship kangaroo hearing.
I was told i was supported by a few committee members that knew me and knew that i were not the sort of person to cause trouble and never had, to these few i owe my appreciation, to the rest i feel they must know how i feel about them.
So at this time my rating for this club and part of its committee is what you would find in the bottom of a stagnent barrel of water.

A R Harrower

It used to be ok but now it’s mostly dead very uninviting needs someone with some caliber to turn it around, can start by getting rid of some of the farcical committee.
