Milpitas Golfland is a LOT of fun! This is the sort of place you see in American films and TV shows but can only dream of here in England.

Golfland is a chain of mini-golf (or crazy-golf as we call it) centres dotted around the US. This one is in Milpitas, not far from where I was staying in Walnut Creek, California.

I went there in December, so it was dead, but at a warm 18C and with the sun shining it was lovely. We were literally the only ones playing so weren’t rushed at all, and could really appreciate the courses - a lot of work has gone into the features and buildings making this an amazing looking centre.

Spread over three courses, with increasing difficulty, it does cater for the whole family. Some of the holes are a little repetitive, and some down to sheer luck rather than skill, but for someone who grew up with the shambles of courses on offer in England there is plenty enough variety. If you’re two grown men who should know better than to see if you can reach a hole three further away than the one you should be playing then you’ll have a lot of fun there!

There are canned drink machines dotted around the course, and I suspect that in the summer months when it is hot and busy (apparently it gets rammed in the late evening and is open until midnight at the weekends) the cans are a welcome purchase.

Inside the building they have a pizza restaurant and a games arcade. We didn’t have time to hang around and eat or play but a cursory glance at what was on offer saw arcade games, pinball machines and mini-fair type games - certainly enough choice.

There’s plenty of parking there, and it was incredibly cheap to play all three courses (each with eighteen holes!). The staff were friendly enough even if a little bored, and I would definitely visit it again when I am next in the area.
